BOZEMAN, MT – A three-goal explosion in the third period pushed visiting University of Mary back into the win column with a 6-1 victory over Montana State University.
Zachery Garrett and
Alex Flicek both tallied twice as the Marauders earned the 25
th win of their inaugural season and their third straight over the Bobcats.
After a loss and a tie last weekend in a home-and-home series with ACHA Division I foe Minot State University, the Marauders regrouped and earned a big win against Montana State.
Garrett scored the lone goal in the opening period, converting a power play opportunity midway through the first off a feed from
Marshall Tschida and
Drew Lenertz. It was the first of three goals scored by the Marauders specialty units.
The Bobcats evened the game on a power play of their own just 1:39 into the second. The rest of the scoring belonged to the Marauders, who ripped off five unanswered goals.
Flicek took over the second period. He broke the tie with a goal at the 5:04 mark before doubling the UMary lead to 3-1 when he tallied shorthanded at 11:07.
The Marauders continued their forward push with a big final stanza.
Jakob Parisien opened the scoring at 5:52 of the third period.
Phillip Silveria found the net at 14:28 and Garrett scored another power play goal at 17:32 to cap UMary's uninterrupted run.
UMary converted 2-of-6 power play opportunities while MSU was 1-for-6.
Aaron Nelson earned the win in goal, stopping 29 of the 30 shots he faced in the game. The Marauders held a 43-30 advantage in shots.
In addition to two goals. Flicek also had an assist. Silveria added two assists to his goal.
Josh Colleaux added two assists and Parisien also had a two-point night with a goal and an assist.
The Marauders (25-2-2 overall), the top-ranked team in the ACHA Division II West region, and the Bobcats complete their weekend series on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 2 pm MT / 3 pm CST.
