MOORHEAD, MN – The University of Mary wrestling team came to wrestle tonight against Concordia College, taking four different matches by fall. Three of the four pins the Marauders posted were by true freshman. In only the Marauders second dual of the season, UMary dominated the Cobbers 40-7.
With the victory the Marauders improve to 2-0 on the season.
Lance Jarrett (184) kicked things off for the Marauders by giving the team six points. The freshman won his bout against Nick Gravdahl when he pinned him at the 1:56 mark in the first period.
At 197 lbs Ryan Stottler fell to his Cobbers foe by a 12-4 major decision. This brought the score to 6-4. Two points is the closest Concordia College found themselves for the entirety of the dual.
Gerardo Jaime (285) won by a 2-1 decision. The sophomore trailed 1-0 heading into the third period but a reversal gave himself a 2-1 advantage and eventually the win.
Nate Humann wrestling at 125 lbs took down his opponent by an 8-4 decision. The redshirt senior only led 4-3 heading into the third period but he put his foot on the gas and finished the third strong to take the 8-4 victory.
At 133 lbs #8 Tate Barnhardt took the lead early and never looked back from there. The senior beat Benjamin Bogart by a 10-2 major decision.
#8 Hunter Eckert (141) made short work of his Cobbers opponent. The senior dominated, pinning his foe at the one minute mark in the first period.
Feeding off the energy of Eckert's pin, Max Bruss took down Mitchel Haman by fall at the 1:04 mark in the first period.
Isaac Berger made it three straight first period pins for the Marauders when he pinned his CC opponent at the 1:29 mark in the first.
Concordia took their second victory of the night in the 165 weight class when Jacob Green lost by a 6-1 decision.
Phillip Springsteen (174) rounded out the day for UMary winning by forfeit.
The Marauders have a quick turnaround as they compete right away again tomorrow night. UMary will take on Northern State in Aberdeen, SD at 7 PM for the Marauders NSIC opener.
