THIS WEEK
The University of Mary wrestling team returns to duals this week. The Marauders will compete on back to back days, they will kick the week off against Concordia College on Wednesday, December 5 at 6 PM in Moorhead, Minnesota. UMary will follow that up with their NSIC opener against Northern State on Thursday, December 6 at 7 PM in Aberdeen, SD.
LAST TIME OUT
The Marauders had a dominant performance at the Dragon Open. UMary placed seven wrestlers on the podium and another nine unattached wrestlers place in the two division competition.Â
Lance Jarrett (184) and Gerardo Jaime (285) led the Marauders with first place finishes in the white division. Wrestling unattached, Lincoln Turman (125) also added another first place finish for the Marauders in the white division.Â
THE RECORD
The Marauders boast a 1-0 record after defeating Minot State in a non conference battle.
OPPO RESEARCH – CONCORDIA COLLEGE
Concordia College comes into the dual against UMary with a 1-1 record. Both of the Cobbers opponents so far this season are members of the NSIC. CC opened up the season with a dual against Northern State. They fell by a score of 23-14 against the Wolves. The Cobbers then took on MSU Moorhead and beat the Dragons 19-18 in a thrilling dual.
LAST MEETING
The Marauders took on the Cobbers during the 2017-18 season. UMary downed the opponent by a score of 33-12. Nate Humann, Tate Barnhardt, Hunter Eckert and Phillip Springsteen all won their bouts against their Cobbers foes to lead the Marauders to victory.
OPPO RESEARCH – NORTHERN STATE
Northern State comes into the dual against the Marauders with a 1-1 record. The Wolves opened their season with a dual against Concordia College. They downed the Cobbers by a score of 23-14. Northern State then fell to MSU Moorhead by a score of 25-12.
LAST MEETING
The Marauders closed out conference play against the Wolves during the 2017-18 season. UMary dominated NSU by a score of 30-12. Nate Humann and Hunter Eckert both dominated their matches against the Wolves. Tate Barnhardt also took a win due to forfeit. Â
REGIONALS
The Marauders wrestling team has six athletes ranked in the Super Region 5 Rankings. As a team, UMary is tied for fifth in the rankings.

PURSUIT OF THE TOP 25
The University of Mary wrestling team continues to impress as they move forward with their season. The Marauders received 12 points in the most recent NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Team ranking which is the highest point total for a team not ranked in the top 25.
A dominant win over Minot State and an impressive showings at every open so far this season are part of the many reasons the Marauders continue to climb the standings in pursuit of a top 25 ranking.
BEST OF THE BEST
The Marauders have two athletes who are recognized as some of the nations best wrestlers in the most recent poll.
Tate Barnhardt continues to climb his way up the national rankings as well. The senior is ranked eighth in the nation at 133 lbs in the latest poll. This is one spot up from the previous poll where Barnhardt was ranked ninth. Barnhardt currently has a 5-3 record on the season, going 3-1 against DII opponents.
Hunter Eckert has posted great results every time he has taken to the mat. The senior ranks 8th in the nation in the 141 lbs class in the most recent poll. Eckert currently has a 7-1 overall record, going 3-1 against DII opponents.Â
OPEN CHAMPS
Nate Humann captured the 125 division at the Jamestown Open. After opening with a bye and two wins by technical fall, he claimed a semifinal win by decision 3-0. Humann won the championship by Decision 12-9 over Dean Arevalo.
At 141, Hunter Eckert would be crowned champion at the Jamestown Open. He took the first two matches of the day by fall and technical fall. The senior won the weight class with a decision over Sawyer Degen 6-3.Â
Lance Jarrett (184) went 3-0 in dominant fashion in the white division to take first place at the Dragon Open. The freshman won his first two bouts of the day by fall. He took the championship match by technical fall 19-2.
Gerardo Jaime (285) won the white division at the Dragon Open with a perfect 3-0 record on the day. The sophomore won his first two matches of the day by decision then the championship bout by an 8-0 major decision.Â
Wrestling unattached for UMary, Braydon Huber (149) took first at the Jamestown Open, winning by fall over Ty Johnson of Concordia College in the championship match. Huber also took first in the amateur division at Kearney Holiday Inn Open when he won by decision over Logan Pine of New Mexico Highlands.
Lincoln Turman (125), wrestling unattached went undefeated at the Dragon Open, winning his first two bouts by fall and the championship match by 6-4 decision.
GOT FANS
The MAC Mob was out in force to cheer on the University of Mary wrestling team during their home opener. "Let's go Mary" and thunderous applause filled the McDowell Activity center as the Marauders downed their rival by a score of 31-12.
Seating room was a rare commodity as students, faculty, parents, and the community piled into the MAC to see first hand the product that head coach Adam Aho had created coming into the highly anticipated season. The Marauders set an unofficial attendance record of 1,118 fans. Yes, that is well over ONE THOUSAND FANS packed into the MAC. This breaks the Marauders wrestling attendance record in the UMary NCAA DII era.
HOME MAT ADVANTAGE
The UMary wrestling teams boasts arguably the best atmosphere in division 2 wrestling. The MAC is without a doubt one of the hardest places in the nation for opposing teams to come wrestle thanks to the spectacular fans. The University of Mary wrestling team and fans caught the eye of Jason Bryant, who runs a nationally recognized podcast in the wrestling community called Short Time Shots with Jason Bryant.
"The University of Mary, the MARAUDERS had a packed house in Bismarck as they topped Minot State 31-12. You want to talk about the environment that Adam Aho is growing out there check twitter and UMary wrestling and you'll see it for yourself, wild stuff I mean other teams at the University of Mary were tweeting about this, they were all there it was crazy." stated Bryant "Just the video itself is like wow that's a division II dual meet?"

DOWN GOES MINOT
UMary downed in-state rivals Minot State by a score of 31-12. The Marauders started out by winning the first six matches to take a 28-0 lead. Nate Humann(125) and Isaac Berger (157) both pinned their Beavers foe to add six points each to the scoreboard. Tate Barnhardt (133) and Hunter Eckert (141) both won by technical fall. Barnhardt won 19-3 in the second period while Hunter Eckert would win 17-1. Max Bruss (149), Austin Eichmann(165), and Emmitt Brooks (285) would all win their bouts by decision.Â

LAST YEAR
UMary finished last season with an 8-6 record, going 5-3 in NSIC competition for their best finish since joining the NSIC. The Marauders advanced four wrestlers to day two of NCAA Regional Championships and one wrestler to the NCAA championships.
THREE FOR THREE
 The Marauders will return a lot of talent from their 2017-18 campaign including the three individuals who swept the NSIC wrestling honors at the conclusion of last season. Adam Aho took home coach of the year honors while Phillip Springsteen won freshman of the year and Tate Barnhardt won wrestler of the year.
