Silveria hat trick keys 7-2 win to complete Marauders weekend sweep over Tommies

MANDAN, ND – Headlined by a Phillip Silveria hat trick, the University of Mary hockey team exploded for four goals in the first period and completed a weekend sweep over the University of St. Thomas 7-2.

In the final game of 2018 for the Marauders, Silveria started the scoring early. Just 2:04 into the game, Silveria fired a low-angle shot from between the circle and the end line from the right side of the goal that eluded St. Thomas goalkeeper Jack Hardwick for a quick 1-0 lead.

Just over three minutes later Marshall Tschida intercepted a pass at the Tommies blue line and found Kyler Moore breaking towards the net. The UMary forward buried his shot to double the Marauders lead at 2-0 on his 14th goals of the season.

It was then Tschida's turn to score, potting the game-winning goal just 8:52 into the third period and giving UMary three goals in a time span of 5:48.

After St. Thomas scored a power play goal with under four minutes to play in the opening stanza, Alex Flicek sent the Marauders into the first intermission leading 4-1 on his team-leading 29th goal.

The Flicek goal was the first of four straight for the Marauders. Andrew Huber tallied UMary's lone goal of the second period before Silveria found the net twice in the third to build an insurmountable 7-1 lead. Silveria's final goal came on the power play.

The Marauders dominated the shot chart, firing the puck on net 55 times while allowing 24 shots. Lance Knudson made 22 saves to earn the win.

Tschida and Moore joined Silveria with a 3-point night as both added a pair of assists. Flicek had one assist for a 2-point game and five other Marauders added assists. Ten players total posted points for UMary in the game.

UMary, ranked first in the ACHA Division II West region, improved to 28-3-2 overall with the win over St. Thomas, ranked 12th in the Midwest region.

The Marauders next play January 4, 2018, at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO. UMary's next home game is January 12, 2018, against Minot State University.
