MOORHEAD, MN –Several Marauders found themselves on the podium at the Dragon Open. The University of Mary wrestling team posted dominant performances across the board in the two division open. The Dragon Open featured a red division and a white division, red was the elite division and white was amateur.
Wrestling at 174 in the red division, Phillip Springsteen took third place in his season opening debut. He won his last two matches of the day, taking one by fall and the third place match by an 8-2 decision over Sakai Kelly who wrestled unattached for SCSU.
Lance Jarrett (184) went 3-0 in dominant fashion in the white division to take first place. The freshman won his first two bouts of the day by fall. He took the championship match by technical fall 19-2.
Gerardo Jaime (285) won the white division with a perfect 3-0 record on the day. The sophomore won his first two matches of the day by decision then the championship bout by an 8-0 major decision. Emmitt Brooks (285) went 3-1 on the day, suffering his only loss to the class champion and teammate. Brooks won his third place bout by a 9-1 major decision.
In the 125 lbs white division the Marauders went 1-2-3. Lincoln Turman, wrestling unattached went undefeated on the day winning his first two bouts by fall and the championship match by 6-4 decision. Karsen Mosbrucker took second going 2-1 on the day. The redshirt freshman won his first two bouts of the day before falling by decision to his teammate in the championship match. Jeremy Leintz went 3-1 on the day to take third place. Leintz won the third place match by a 12-2 major decision.
UMary had two wrestlers place in the 141 lbs white division. Unattached for UMary, Trevor Fauver took second place. The freshman went 2-1 on the day taking his first two bouts by fall. He fell in the championship to Cameron Riggs, unattached for SCSU by a 14-1 major decision. Josh Weisbrod took fourth place on the day. He won his first match of the day by fall. His first loss of the day came to the division champion. He fell by technical fall in the third place match to take fourth overall.
Wrestling unattached Braydon Huber (149) took second place in the red division. The freshman won his first two bouts on the day by decision before falling in the championship match by a 7-6 decision to Tanner Crissler of Minot State.
Dominic Tudor (285) wrestled unattached for UMary going 2-1 on the day to take second place in the red division. Tudor won his first bout by fall, followed by a win by decision. He fell by a 3-1 decision in the championship match to Samuel Erckenbrack of MSU Moorhead.
Anthony Velazquez (157) wrestled unattached and took fifth place in the red division. The freshman took home wins by decision and technical fall on the day. He won the fifth place bout by a 9-5 decision over Zachary Berry of Minot State.
Wrestling unattached, Braeden Dickinson (133) took sixth place in the red division. Dickinson won by decision 9-4 before falling in the fifth place match.
Unattached for UMary, Cameron Hegel (149) took sixth place in the white division. Hegel won by a 16-0 technical fall for his lone win on the day.
Payton Hume (unattached) took second place in the 165 lbs white division. Hume won his first two bouts by fall and decision before falling by a 7-6 decision in the championship match.
Parker Wahl, wrestling unattached in the 174 lbs white division took third place. Wahl's lone loss on the day came to the division champ. The freshman dominated the third place bout by a 16-0 technical fall.
The Marauders return to duals next week. They will partake in duals on back to back days. They will kick the week off on Wednesday, December 5 at 6 PM against Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. They will follow that up on Thursday, December 6 at 7 PM against Northern State in Aberdeen, SD.
