THIS WEEK
The University of Mary wrestling team will battle in-state rivals Minot State on Thursday, November 8 at 7 PM. The dual will be counted as a non conference competition. The Marauders look to use the energy from the home crowd to take down the Beavers. Come support your Marauders and pack the MAC! The Marauders will follow the dual up by returning to open competition on Saturday, November 10 at the Dakota Wesleyan Open in Mitchell, SD.

LAST TIME OUT
The Marauders opened their season at the Jamestown Open in Jamestown, ND. Wrestling against several division I wrestlers, UMary still posted several impressive results. The Marauders were led by
Nate Humann and
Hunter Eckert who eached were crowned champions of their weight divisions. Marauders preseason wrestler of the year
Tate Barnhardt captured second place in the 133 class.
Max Bruss (149) and
Gerardo Jaime (285) would each bring home third place finishes.

OPEN CHAMPS
Nate Humann captured the 125 division. After opening with a bye and two wins by technical fall, he claimed a semifinal win by decision 3-0. Humann would win the championship by Decision 12-9 over Dean Arevalo.

At 141,
Hunter Eckert would take the first two matches of the day by fall and technical fall. The senior won the weight class with a decision over Sawyer Degen 6-3.Â

NSIC MARAUDER TO WATCH
Tate Barnhardt (133 lbs) was named the NSIC Marauders Wrestler to Watch during the upcoming 2018-19 season. During the 2017-18 season Barnhardt finished sixth at the Super Regional 3 Tournament, winning 27 matches on the season with 18 of them coming by bonus point victories. Tate was an impressive 13-1 in duals, going undefeated in NSIC duals. These outstanding results earned him NSIC Wrestler of the Year and NSIC 1st Team All Conference honors last season. The senior is ranked 9th nationally to start out his 2018-19 campaign. In the season opener
Tate Barnhardt took second place, falling to division I wrestler McGwire Midkiff of North Dakota State University.

RETURNING FIVE

The Marauders will return five starters from the 2017-18 season including four athletes who made it to day two of NCAA Regional Championships.

The 2017-18 NSIC freshman of the year
Phillip Springsteen competed at 165 pounds in his first official season. With a record of 24-8, he dominated in the top position, leading the team with ten falls, and 12 riding time points. The Graham, Washington native received NSIC Second Team All-Conference honors last season. He will fill out the 174 weight class and compete there this season.

Nate Humann posted a 13-14 record during the '17-18 season. Humann scored 44 takedowns with ten bonus point wins on his way to becoming Champion of the Jimmie Open and taking third place at the DWU Open. He qualified for day two of the NCAA Super Regional 3 tournament. The senior from Bismarck, ND wrestles in the 125 lbs weight class.

Hunter Eckert will head the 141 weight class for the Marauders. The senior recorded 14 wins with four coming by major decision and six by pin. Eckert placed 4th at the DWU Open. He made it to day two of NCAA Super Regional 3.

Junior, 165 pound
Austin Eichmann play an important role for the Marauders. The Hastings, Minn native wrestled in the 174 pound class during his sophomore campaign. He earned a 12-13 record, scoring five bonus point wins. Eichmann took home first place in the Dakota Wesleyan Open.

LAST YEAR
UMary finished last season with an 8-6 record, going 5-3 in NSIC competition for their best finish since joining the NSIC. The Marauders advanced four wrestlers to day two of NCAA Regional Championships and one wrestler to the NCAA championships.

The Marauders will return a lot of talent from their 2017-18 campaign including the three individuals who swept the NSIC wrestling honors at the conclusion of last season.
Adam Aho took home coach of the year honors while
Phillip Springsteen won freshman of the year and
Tate Barnhardt won wrestler of the year.
