Early lead fades for Marauders in road loss at Seattle Pacific

Seattle, WA – The University of Mary men's soccer team took to the road and headed west to Seattle, WA, to take on Seattle Pacific University. Despite an early goal by Alberto Asencio, the Marauders fell to the Falcons 4-1.

The Marauders came out motivated to continue their winning streak on the road. The team started the game aggressively as Asencio continued his hot play. The senior from Alicante, Spain, blasted home his team-leading 3rd goal of the season from 16 yards out to put the Marauders up 1-0 just ten minutes into match play.

The Falcons answered quickly. In the 15th minute of play SPU scored off a penalty kick by Titus Grant. The Falcons closed out the period with a header in the 43rd minute by Alex Mejia to put Seattle Pacific up 2-1 at the break.

In the second half the Marauders battled but could not overcome the tough Falcons. SPU recorded two more goals in the 72nd and 76th minute of action to seal the deal on a 4-1 victory.

The Marauders fall to 3-6-1 on the season.

UMary now travels across the country for their next match in Lakeland, FL, against Florida Southern College. The Marauders will take on the Moccasins at 6 pm CST on Monday, October 8.
