Moore hat trick rallies undefeated Marauders past Bobcats

MANDAN, ND – Trailing after the first period for the first time all season, the University of Mary hockey team responded by scoring four straight goals to maintain their perfect record. Behind a hat trick by Kyler Moore, the Marauders claimed a 5-2 win over visiting Montana State University to conclude a two-game Homecoming weekend sweep of the Bobcats, improving UMary 's record to a perfect 14-0 in the program's inaugural season.

One night after giving up a goal only 33 seconds into the game, the Bobcats displayed their own ability for the quick strike as Luke Bing beat Marauders goalkeeper Lance Knudson just 1:50 into the game.

The Marauders soon tied the game on an unassisted goal by Dylan Goulet at the 8:06 mark but another goal by Bing a scant 33 seconds later allowed the Bobcats to enter the first intermission leading 2-1.

Not used to playing from behind, UMary responded impressively. The Marauders found the equalizer at 1:49 of the second period on a power play goal from Moore. Alex Flicek then broke the deadlock at 12:16 to provide the Marauders the lead through two periods.

Moore took over the third period, doubling the Marauders lead to 4-2 at 10:19 on his second goal. He later scored into an empty net to complete his first hat trick with the Marauders.

After not scoring since opening weekend, Moore had the hot hand against Montana State. The Colorado native finished with three goals and an assist after posting two goals against the Bobcats in the opener.

Flicek had a goal and two assists.

The Marauders outshot the Bobcats 51-24. Knudson posted 22 saves for UMary and Charlie Lafferty had 46 for MSU.

UMary, now 14-0 on the season, next takes a trip to Fort Myers, FL, to take on defending ACHA Division II national champion Florida Gulf Coast on Oct. 19-20.
