Rotunda posts double double in Marauders road loss to #19 Wolves

ABERDEEN, SD – University of Mary sophomore Lauren Rotunda's team-leading fourth double double of the season wasn't enough to overcome a second quarter slowdown in the Marauders 67-49 road loss to #19 Northern State University.

Rotunda paced the Marauders with ten points and ten rebounds. She also had two assists and two steals in the contest.

Gabbie Bohl, Macy Williams and Christal Hearn all scored eight points. Bohl chipped in six rebounds. Williams had two of the team's four treys. Hearn added two rebounds to her career-best scoring total.

Miranda Ristau led the Wolves with 16 points. Alexis Tappe added 14 and Jill Conrad 10. Brianna Kusler paced NSU with nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. She also had eight points.

The Marauders struggled to score against the Northern Sun-leading Wolves. UMary shot 35.1 percent overall and hit 4-of-19 trey attempts and 5-of-10 free throws. While just 1-of-8 behind the arc, Northern State made 46.6 percent of its shots overall and went 12-of-16 at the line. Additionally NSU held a 42-31 edge in rebounding.

UMary started the night strong, building a 25-23 lead midway through the second quarter. Down four, a jumper by Rotunda and back-to-back baskets by Hearn gave the Marauders the 2-point advantage. The remainder of the opening half belonged to the Wolves, who ran off 11 straight points to lead 34-25 at intermission.

Soon facing a double digit deficit, the Marauders whittled the Wolves lead to 38-34 following baskets from Rotunda and Jordyn Jossart sandwiched around a trey from Williams. Once again the Wolves responded, this time with a 10-3 run to take control of the contest. UMary pulled no closer than nine points the rest of the night.

The Marauders conclude their first road trip of the season with a visit to MSU Moorhead on Saturday, January 6. Tip off is 4 pm at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
