Dominant all-around effort leads Marauders past visiting Peacocks 73-38

BISMARCK, ND – Dominant on both ends of the court, the University of Mary women's basketball team rolled past visiting Upper Iowa University 73-38. Sophomore forwards Cassie Askvig and Gabbie Bohl combined to score 42 points as the Marauders captured their third straight home win and fourth victory in five games overall.
 
Askvig posted her sixth double double of the season, leading all players with 22 points and 12 rebounds. She was 10-of-14 from the field, made both her 3-point attempts, and blocked two shots.
 
Bohl scored 20 points, making 6-of-9 field goal attempts and converting 8-of-9 free throws.
 
Dani Williams knocked down 3-of-4 attempts behind the arc and added 13 points for the Marauders.
 
Bekka Pierson led the Peacocks with 12 points.
 


Effective early, the Peacocks scored six of the first eight points of the game and latter tied the game 8-8. The Marauders then grabbed control of the game with a 12-0 run that featured seven points from Askvig. UMary's run soon increased to 21-2 as the Marauders forged ahead 29-10, the 19-point lead equaling the largest of the first half for the Marauders. The final differential of 35 points proved the largest lead of the day for UMary.
 


UMary (10-11 overall, 6-9 NSIC) shot 51 percent for the game (28-of-55) and made 10-of-13 free throws. In the first quarter the Marauders shot 69 percent and made 3-of-4 3-point attempts. UIU connected on 31 percent of its shots.
 
The Marauders also dominated on the boards, holding a 47-21 advantage in rebounding.  
 
The 38 points allowed is the fewest by the Marauders in an NSIC game and the second-fewest after the 33 scored by Yellowstone Christian.
