Cassie Askvig and
Lauren Rotunda took control of the final stanza and delivered a Marauders victory. The duo combined for 15 points in the final ten minutes of the Marauders 68-58 road win over Bemidji State University.
Askvig scored a game-high 22 points for UMary and snared eight rebounds. The Minot, ND, native, who scored seven of her points in the fourth quarter, made 6-of-9 shots in the game and finished 10-of-14 at the line.
Rotunda produced eight of her 14 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Marauders on an 18-8 late in the game to secure the Marauders first Northern Sun road win of the season.
Gabbie Bohl added 18 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in the game, finishing 10-of-12 at the free throw line.
Brooklyn Bachmann led the Beavers with 19 points and nine rebounds. Gabby DuBois added 12 points off the bench.
Able to sink just two 3-pointers in the game, the Marauders turned to the inside game of Askvig and Bohl. The two sophomore forwards from, Minot, ND, went to the line time after time. The duo combined to go 20-of-26 from the free throw line. As a team the Marauders finished 28-of-34, a season-high in both categories. BSU, however, struggled with free throws, making just 13-of-21.
Neither team shot well from the floor as UMary (9-11 overall, 5-9 Northern Sun) made 37 percent of its shots while BSU (4-14, 3-11 NSIC) connected at a 36 percent rate.
The Marauders now return home for Alumni Weekend when UMary hosts Upper Iowa and Winona State on January 26-27.
