HAYS, KS – In a closely contested contest that remained in doubt until the waning moments, the University of Mary men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 neutral site loss to Oklahoma Baptist.
Taking advantage of a Marauders miscue, the Bison opened the scoring in the 33
rd minute on a penalty kick.
Unable to build much of an attack on the day, it took until the second half for the Marauders to find the equalizer. Taking UMary's first shot of the match in the 52
nd minute, Andre Almquist gathered a thru ball from Guilherme Zogbi da Silva and beat Bison goalkeeper Thomas Ackerknecht to the far post. It was the third goal of the season for Almquist.
The Bison regained the lead in the 68
th minute. Corralling a rebound from a shot that hit the crossbar, Jesus Andrade knocked the ball into the net for a 2-1 OBU lead.
Hoping to pull even,
Mitch Carter fired the ball wide in the 72
nd minute for UMary's second and final shot of the night. The Marauders attack remained bottled up the remained of the game.
OBU sealed the contest in the 89
th minute.
Ludvig Rhodin posted four saves for the Marauders.
The Bison held the edge in shots (15-2) and shots on frame (7-1). The Marauders took the only two corner kicks of the game.
UMary continues its five-game road trip with a visit to Jamestown University on Oct. 3.
