BISMARCK, ND – Behind the precision outside shooting of
Dani Williams and the inside power game of
Gabbie Bohl, the University of Mary women's basketball team opened their home schedule with a dominating 87-47 win over Dickinson State University. Williams hit six treys and Bohl registered a double double.
Williams knocked down a career-best 6-of-9 three-point attempts and scored 20 points. She added five rebounds and two assists and didn't commit a turnover.
Bohl scored 24 points, hauled down 13 rebounds and blocked two shots. The sophomore center from Minot, ND, made 10-of-14 shots overall and made 4-of-6 at the free throw line.
Cassie Askvig also reached double figures for the Marauders. A sophomore forward from Minot, ND, Askvig just missed a double double. She had 15 points, made a pair of treys, hauled down eight boards and dished two assists,
Held to seven points,
Lauren Rotunda was in the Thanksgiving spirit early and dished out seven assists. She also made three steals and added four rebounds.
Overall ten out of the 14 Marauders who played in the contest scored.
Riley Helmik led the Blue Hawks with 11 points.
Knotted at 16-16 late in the first quarter, the Marauders went on an 11-0 run behind five points from Askvig and six from Bohl as UMary began to dominate inside. By the end of the night the Marauders held a 30-16 edge in paint points.
Eventually the Marauders entered intermission leading 51-29.
UMary next hosts Presentation College on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 6 pm at the McDowell Activity Center (Note: game time was originally 1 pm for the Marauders-Saints game but has been switched to 6 pm).
