MARSHALL, MN – Taking on one of the top teams in the nation, University of Mary senior
Lauren Randall connected for a game-high 14 kills and posted her top hitting percentage this season but the Marauders couldn't solve the offensive efficiency of 2
nd-ranked Southwest Minnesota State University. The Mustangs committed just eight attack errors in the game to 20 for the Marauders in the Mustangs 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-15) sweep.
Randall terminated 14 of her 27 attacks and made just four errors for a .370 hitting percentage. She also added ten digs for her team-high 11
th double double.
Anna Nietfeld added seven kills for UMary (5-15 overall, 1-10 Northern Sun) and
Natalia Cruz five. Overall the Marauders had 32 kills and hit .129 for the match.
Geovanna Almeida added a game-high 15 digs for UMary.
Taylor Reiss and Brooke Borchardt both posted 12 kills for SMSU (18-1, 10-1). Borchardt was nearly perfect as she terminated 12 balls on 13 swings without a single misfire. Sarina Smith added eight kills on 13 attempts without an error, a .615 hitting percentage.
After a rough first set, the Marauders battled back in the second set within 18-17. The Mustangs quickly regained their stride and scored seven of the last eight points in the set. SMSU, which had a 9-2 edge in blocks on the day, slowly built its lead in the third set to as many as ten points.
UMary continues its four-game road swing at St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth on Oct. 20-21.
