JAMESTOWN, ND –
Chris Leatherman needed just 18 seconds to pin his opponent, one of many dominating wins for the University of Mary wrestling team in a 41-6 win over in-state foe University of Jamestown. Mary captured three wins by pins and two others ended early on technical falls as the Marauders won eight of the ten matches against the Jimmies.
The big scores for the Marauders started immediately.
Josh Jensen ran off 18 straight points at 125 to rout Joseph Murillo in a match that ended in just 3:47 on a technical fall.
Tate Barnhardt won his team-high 13
th victory of the season with a pin of Phillip Johnson just 2:08 into the 133 pound event.
After Mary's
Reed Cronin edged Anthony Kifer 7-6 by scoring the last two points of the match at 141, the Jimmies earned their first win with a 3-1 decision for Brandon Aragon over
Jordan Hegel. For Hegel it was his first match of the season.
Leatherman then picked up the fastest win of the day at 157. Leading 2-0, the freshman pinned Jackson Schauer in 18 seconds to build the Marauders advantage to 20-3.
Paul Michaelson kept the wins coming for the Marauders at 165. The junior scored 16 straight points over Kade Thompson to claim a technical foul at 3:25.
In a back-and-forth battle, Dane Fisher was leading Mike Zipan 7-6 late before the Bismarck, ND, native picked up two points for the takedown and proceeded to pin him 6:11 into the match.
Jordan Pelach kept the big wins coming when he pulled out a 12-2 major decision over Ryan Sanchez at 184.
At 197, Wiliam Parks claimed the Jimmies only other win with a 7-5 sudden victory over
Jacob Green in overtime.
The Marauders final points came on a forfeit at 285.
The win evens the Marauders season record at 2-2. Mary next visits Minot State University in a Northern Sun dual on Sunday at 3 pm.
