ORANGE, Calif. - The University of Mary's first win of the season was a huge one as the Marauders beat No. 2 California Baptist, 85-75 Sunday, Nov. 6.

Two Marauders finished with a double-double and four Marauders scored in double-figures as Mary outscored the Lancers 54-34 in the second half to earn its first victory of the CCA Tip-Off Classic.

Hannah Larson finished with 17 points on 6-of-17 shooting and hauled down 13 rebounds while dishing out four assists.

Gabbie Bohl had a breakthrough game adding 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting and posted 13 rebounds for the Marauders, four of them offense rebounds.

Cassie Askvig also finished with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting as teammate Dani Williams finished with a team-high 18 points including 3-of-4 from the three point line.

Mary (1-2) shot 48 percent from the floor as the Lancers (2-1) shot 40 percent in the game.

The Marauders scored 38 points in the paint, 15 points off turnovers, 13 second chance points and six fast break points to hand CBU its first loss of the season.

The Marauders came out firing early and took a 23-14 lead into the second quarter but CBU clawed back like a No. 2 team in the country would and outscored Mary 27-8 in the quarter.

CBU ended the quarter on a 16-3 run and led 41-31 at the half.

The Marauders started to chip away late in the third quarter and used a 8-0 scoring run behind a Larson jumper, a Lauren Rotunda three-pointer and a Christal Hearn three-pointer to trail just 53-52 with 3:15 left in the quarter.

With 8:17 left in the fourth quarter, the Lancers led 64-57 as it looked like the upset bid was over, however, a little 7-0 run capped off by an Askvig jumper tied the game, 64-64.

The two teams would trade baskets before the Marauders started to pull away with 3:12 left on the clock. And with 24 seconds left in the game and up by seven points after two Williams free-throws, Mary could taste the upset victory.

Rachel Weir finished with nine points, Rotunda scored eight more and Hearn went 2-for-3 from the floor, adding five points.

Cassidy Mihalko led the Lancers with a game-high 19 points.

After going back-to-back games committing 20-plus turnovers, the Marauders finished with just 12 against CBU.

Mary finished 1-2 for the tournament and will continue its early season road trip Friday, Nov. 11 at 12 p.m. against No. 12 Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, Kan.
