BISMARCK, N.D. -
Gabbie Bohl scored a career-high 29 points in 24 minutes of play as the University of Mary defeated Minot State, 67-54 Saturday, Nov. 26 in its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener.
Bohl finished 11-for-14 from the field and hauled in nine rebounds, seven of which were offensive. She also connected on seven of her 11 free throws.
The Marauders (6-3) struggled from the three-point line, shooting just 11 percent but scored 44 of its 67 points in the paint and shot 42 percent from the floor.
Hannah Larson was the only other Marauder in double-figures as she finished with 12 points. She is now six points away from joining the 1,000-point club. Defensively, Larson finished with a game-high nine rebounds and also added two offensive rebounds. It was her third double-double of the season. She also finished with seven blocks and six assists.
The Marauders striked first as Bohl scored her first two points of the night 1:56 into the game and Mary held onto that lead throughout the quarter.
In the second quarter the Marauders used a 6-0 run to take its largest lead of the half, leading 26-15 with 3:30 to go until halftime.
However, MSU used a 7-1 run to end out the first half but trailed 27-22 after scoring 11 points in the quarter.
The third quarter was kind to the Marauders as the Blue & Orange scored 25 of its 67 points coming out of halftime and held the Beavers to 14 points in the quarter.
The Beavers (2-5) trailed 52-36 heading into the final quarter and Mary's big third quarter put the hammer to the nail as the closest MSU would come was within 11 with 15 seconds left on the clock.
Mary held the Beavers to 29 percent from the field and 26 percent from the three-point line.
Kari Clements led the way for the Beavers with 20 points and three steals as Kori Eurich added 12 points for the visiting team.
The Beavers scored two more fast break points then the Marauders but Mary won the second chance points category, 19-11.
Other scorers for the Marauders were
Dani Williams with nine points,
Lauren Rotunda finished with eight points,
Cassie Askvig chipped in five and
Rachel Weir added four.
Mary will closes out its three-game home stand with a 3-0 record and heads to Minnesota State Moorhead Friday, Dec. 2 on a five-game winning streak.
