TOPEKA, Kan. - The University of Mary women's basketball team outscored Washburn 37-28 in the second half to claim a 66-62 win over the Ichabods on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Hannah Larson and
Cassie Askvig both scored in double-figures as the Marauders shot 48 percent from the field.

Mary senior Larson finished with 19 points and went 5-for-10 from the field and connected on eight of her 11 free throws. She also hauled down 11 rebounds, finished with three assists, four blocks and two steals.

For the third straight game Askvig reached double-figures as she finished with 19 points, making five of her six shots.

Mary trailed 13-8 after the first quarter but found its groove in the final three quarters as they used 24 bench points to claim its second victory of the season.

The Marauders were behind 34-29 at the half and trailed by as much as eight points in the third quarter but took a late 60-58 lead with 4:53 in the final quarter to stay ahead for good.

The Marauders shot 48 percent in the game as WU connected on 34 percent of its shots.

Despite strong shooting performances from Larson and Askvig,
Gabbie Bohl and
Dani Williams finished just a combined 5-for-18 from the floor in the game.

But five Marauders scored at least five points as
Rachel Weir chipped in eight points and teammates Williams and Bohl finished with seven and eight points.

Mary will play one more game on the road Saturday, Nov. 19 against Presentation College before its 2016-2017 home opener against Lake Superior State Sunday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. inside the McDowell Activity Center.
