Marauders Battle Two NSIC Teams on the Road this Weekend

The University of Mary (9-14, 4-10 NSIC) will begin its two-match road trip Friday, Oct. 28 against Northern Sun foe No. 6 Winona State (20-3, 11-3 NSIC) and will travel to Fayette, Iowa Saturday, Oct. 29 to battle Upper Iowa (9-14, 3-11 NSIC).
 
UP NEXT: The Marauders will be back home next week against two Top-10 teams in the nation.  Mary will host No. 7 Augustana on Nov. 4 and No. 9 Wayne State on Nov. 5.
 
THE SERIES: WSU is 13-2 against the Marauders in the Division II era. The Warriors have won the last 11 matches and beat the Marauders in straight sets seven times. UIU is 12-4 against Mary dating back to 2006 and have won the last 10 matches.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Marauders are on a two-match losing streak and have dropped to eighth place in the NSIC after suffering two defeats last week. Minnesota State came into the McDowell Activity Center and rattled off three straight set wins after dropping the first to the Marauders. Then No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul came to town and beat Mary in straight sets. The Marauders are 2-9 in its last 11 matches.
 
BY THE NUMBERS: This season, Mary is averaging 13.1 kills per set, 12.4 assists per set and hitting .194 as a team compared to its opponents .233 hitting percentage. Mary ranks 11th in hitting percentage, seventh in assists, seventh in kills 16th in blocks, 10th in digs and fourth in service aces.
 
IMPACT MARAUDERS: Junior outside hitter Lauren Randall leads the team with 361 kills and averages a league second best 4.63 kills per set. Senior setter Janell Finkbeiner has collected 772 assists this year and is averaging 9.19 per set. Alex Brown leads the team in digs with 288. and senior teammate Rachel Astrup leads the team with 50 total blocks (0.64 per set). Astrup also has a team-high .308 hitting percentage. She is averaging just under 2.00 kills per set and has a total of 146 kills this season.
 
CHASING RECORDS: Finkbeiner has 2,327 assists for her career and needs nine more to break the Marauders Division II assists record. Randall is also closing in on a tremendous accomplishment. A Burnsville, Minn., native, Randall needs 130 more kills this season to reach 1,000 kills in her career.
 
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS: WSU comes into the weekend with a five-match winning streak and a perfect 6-0 record at home this season. The Warriors lead Division II with 14.09 assist per set and are second in kills per set with 14.75. WSU's defense is averaging 18.96 digs per set and led by Jamie Cairncross who averages 5.19 digs per set (379 total digs). Taylor Goar and Danielle Rampart lead the team offensively with 3.79 and 3.20 kills per set. Maria Wrage and Lauren Kudronowicz have over 60 blocks each this season. The Warriors are holding its opponents to just a .136 hitting percentage. WSU is currently tied with Augustana for fourth place in the NSIC.
 
SCOUTING THE PEACOCKS: UIU has been shutout in five of its last seven matches and has been unable to capture a win in those matches. As a team this season, the Peacocks rank 14th in the NSIC with a .171 hitting percentage, 15th in assists, 15th in kills per set, 14th in blocks per set, 15th in service aces and sixth in digs per set. Alisha VanderWoude leads the Peacocks offensively with 2.23 kills per set and 176 total kills this season. Setter Malissa LeClaire is averaging 5.51 assists per set as teammate Kelsey Hinrichs leads the team with 16 service aces and she averages 2.23 digs per set. Around the net, the Peacocks are led by VanderWoude who averages 0.63 blocks per set and has recorded 50 total blocks this season.
