THIS WEEKEND
The University of Mary women's soccer team wraps up a six game road trip – including five straight Northern Sun games – when the Marauders visit the University of Sioux Falls Cougars and the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs. The Marauders first face the Cougars on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. The weekend finishes when the Marauders and Mustangs meet on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m.
THE RECORDS
The Marauders are 0-4-1 on the season, including a mark of 0-3 in Northern Sun contests…. Sioux Falls is 1-4 and 0-3… Southwest Minnesota State is 2-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC.
LAST WEEK
The Marauders opened NSIC play with a 3-2 midweek loss at Minot State before dropping identical 2-0 decisions at Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota Crookston… USF suffered a 7-0 loss at Minnesota State and a 3-0 loss at Concordia-St. Paul… SMSU split its weekend series, beating Concordia-St. Paul 1-0 and losing 1-0 at Minnesota State.
ROOM SERVICE
The Marauders should be accustomed to life on the road as the team is wrapping up a six-game road trip. The last five games on the string are Northern Sun contests.
SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE
U-Mary and Sioux Falls, along with Wayne State College, are the only three teams still looking for a win in the Northern Sun. All three teams are 0-3. The Marauders or the Cougars look to change from a 0 to a 1 in the left-hand column on Saturday.
6x6
The Marauders have had two other six game road trips since joining the NCAA and Northern Sun for the 2006 season. In 2013 U-Mary played six straight road games and went 1-4-1. In 2008 the Marauders opened the season with six straight road losses before going 11-4-1 the rest of the season.
OCTOBERFEST
After a September spent mainly on the road, the Marauders play six on nine games scheduled in October at home. Overall, seven of the Marauders final ten games will be played in Bismarck.
PK PERFECT
Megan Searson is perfect in her Marauders career in penalty kicks. The junior nailed both her opportunities at Minot State. She also made her only attempt last season and has scored all three of her career goals on PKs.
HISTORY
The Marauders have won the last five meetings against the Cougars, including a 3-1 win last season in Bismarck… U-Mary owns a commanding 10-3 series edge against Southwest Minnesota State. In a series that started in 1997, the Marauders won the first nine games before the Mustangs claimed a 2-1 win in 2011. During that nine game stretch, the Marauders allowed just two goals with seven shutouts. U-Mary is 4-1 in games played in Bismarck, N.D., 2-0 on neutral sites and 4-2 in Marshall, Minn.
SENIOR LEADERSHIP
Five seniors have started this season for the Marauders with four playing defensive positions.
Emily Christensen,
Jacquelyn Smith and
Mykala Benjamin all are defenders and join with senior goalkeeper Baily Wenz to provide an experienced back line for U-Mary. A fifth senior,
Destiny Glaser, plays midfield and will also see time on defense.
FRESHMEN FINDS
Four freshmen have found their way into the starting lineup already this season. Cailin Dooley, a defender, has started all five Marauders games this season. Midfielder
Nicole Wolfer and forward
Jade Smith have both started three games apiece and
Emily Julian has one start. After her first collegiate game, Dooley was named the NSIC Defender of the Week for her role in a shutout of MSU Billings in the opening game of the year.
