BEMIDJI, Minn. – In search of their first win of the season, the University of Mary women's soccer team visited undefeated Bemidji State University on the Marauders first Northern Sun weekend road trip. With U-Mary unable to find the net, the two teams continued their present trajectories as the Beavers earned a 2-0 win.
For a third straight game, the Marauders (0-3-1 overall / 0-2-0 Northern Sun) were forced to play from behind after allowing an early goal. U-Mary attacked first but
Emily Christensen's shot was stopped by BSU (5-0-0 / 2-0-0) goalkeeper Catherine Arneson. The Beavers immediately countered. Rachael Norton found the back of the net off a feed from Sarah Stram just 4:33 into the contest.
The Marauders quickly reversed the attack with
Destiny Glaser launching three shots in under two minutes. After missing high and then wide, she fired one on frame but Arneson made another save. Christensen added another shot on frame in the 20
th minute before the Beavers shut down the Marauders attack.
The send half started similar to the first. U-Mary had the first opportunity to score but a header by
Emily Julian off Meagan Searson's corner kick was corralled by new Beavers keeper Anna Fobbe.
Norton then struck again. After
Bailey Wenz stopped her first shot, the Beavers forward scored her second counter of the game and third of the season at 50:11 to double the Bemidji State lead.
Unable to break through a rugged Beavers defense, the Marauders managed just one shot on frame the rest of the contest.
Glaser led the Marauders offense with three shots, including one on frame. Both of Christensen's shots were on goal.
Wenz recorded six saves for U-Mary.
BSU held a 13-9 edge in shots, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on frame. U-Mary took three corner kicks to one for BSU.
The Marauders continue their six game road trip at the University of Minnesota Crookston on Sunday, Sept. 20.
