Edwards' Triple Double Highlights Marauders 100-76 Win Over Saints

BISMARCK, N.D. – One night after setting a team scoring record, the University of Mary men's basketball team made further history as Marquealis Edwards posted a triple double in the Marauders 100-76 non-conference home win over Presentation College.

Edwards recorded ten points, ten rebounds and 11 assists as the Marauders blew past the Saints in U-Mary's last out-of-conference game of the season. The senior guard became the first Marauders player in U-Mary's NCAA era to record double digit statistics in points, rebounds and assists. Additionally he became the first U-Mary player during the NCAA era to hit double figures in assists.

The Marauders broke the school scoring record on Monday night in a 144-60 win over Oglala Lakota College.

U-Mary improves to 9-2 on the season, equaling last season's win total while continuing to build on the program's best overall and best Northern Sun start to a season in the NCAA era, which began in the fall of 2006.

A wide open contest in the first half, the Marauders led by as many as 11 points before the Saints rallied late. Presentation guard Donnell Minton nailed two treys in the final 63 seconds of the half to cut the U-Mary lead to 46-40 at intermission.

Running wide open offensively already, the Marauders ratcheted up the defensive intensity in the opening minutes of the second half. U-Mary scored ten consecutive points on the way to a 21-2 run to open the final stanza and take control of the game. The Marauders scored 11 of the points on fast breaks, including dunks by Bryan Jefferson and Devan Douglas and a trey from Douglas.

A Damonta Henry 3-ball with just over 13 minutes left in the game increased the Marauders advantage to 70-44 and sealed U-Mary's fourth win in five days.

The Marauders dominated inside, holding a 46-8 edge in points in the paint and a 45-23 rebounding advantage. Additionally U-Mary's bench contributed 37 points to nine for Presentation.

For the second straight game, all 11 Marauders scored and five reached double digits. Douglas scored a team-high 18 points, making 8-of-9 shots and grabbing five rebounds. Jefferson added 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and also made 8-of-9 field goal attempts. Isaac Lindquist chipped in 14 points and blocked two shots.

Henry came off the bench to score 11 points. The junior guard from Chicago, Ill., was 3-of-4 behind the arc and reached double figure points for the fifth straight game.

Frank Cimino scored a game-high 26 points for Presentation. He was 6-of-11 on treys and made all six free throws. Louis Cox hit four 3-pointers and scored 23 points and Minton added 16 points, hit four treys and added four assists.

The Marauders shot 58.2 percent from the floor and made 15-of-19 free throws. Though Presentation hit 14-of-29 from behind the arc, the Saints shot just 37.1 percent overall. At the line PC was an impressive 16-of-18.

U-Mary returns to Northern Sun action on Friday, Dec. 18, when the Marauders host intrastate rivals Minot State University. Game time is 8 p.m. at the McDowell Activity Center. The Marauders, who defeated the Beavers 78-66 on the road to open NSIC play, are 4-1 in league action.
