DICKINSON, N.D. – Solid defense and balanced scoring lifted the University of Mary men's basketball team to an 88-66 win over Dickinson State University in the first of two exhibition games this fall for the Marauders.
Five Marauders reached double figures in scoring with senior
Brandon Tyler leading the way with 13 points. The Oshkosh, Wis., native hit two treys in the game and was 5-of-6 at the free throw line.
Juniors
Bryan Jefferson and
Damonta Henry both added 12 points each. Jefferson connected on 5-of-8 field goal attempts, snared five rebounds and dished four assists. Senior
Devan Douglas chipped in 11 and sophomore Brendan Mann had 10 points and three steals.
In the Marauders first outing of the season, everyone contributed to the win. All 11 players scored on a night no one played more than 26 minutes. Led by Henry and Mann, the bench produced 42 points while the Blue Hawks reserves managed just nine.
Leading by three at intermission, the Marauders grabbed control of the contest out of the locker room, running off ten straight points to grab a 45-31 lead. Jefferson scored five of the points and
Marquealis Edwards had four. Dickinson State pulled no closer than 11 points while U-Mary eventually grew its lead to as many as 22 points.
Julian Vasquez led the Blue Hawks with 25 points. Gilberto Shojgreen, Jr., added 12 points.
The Marauders wrap up their exhibition schedule with a visit to NCAA Division I North Dakota State University on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
