Thirteen University of Mary seniors take to the gridiron for the last time in the Blue & Orange when the Marauders host St. Cloud State University on Saturday, Nov. 14, in the season finale for both teams. Kickoff for this Northern Sun North Division clash between the Marauders and Huskies is set for 1 p.m. at the MDU Resources Community Bowl. Â
THE RECORDS
The Marauders are 1-9 overall and in the Northern Sun and 1-5 in the NSIC North division... The Huskies are 5-5 in the NSIC/overall and 3-3 in the NSIC North.
LAST TIME OUT
The Marauders suffered a 37-0 loss at MSU Moorhead in the 10th Battle for the Paddle... The Huskies lost 31-24 to Northern State in St. Cloud State's final home game of the season on two 4th quarter touchdowns by the Wolves. Â
LAST YEAR
U-Mary finished 5-6 overall in the NSIC and 3-4 in the NSIC North… SCSU was 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the NSIC North.
MARAUDERS REWIND GAME 10: U-Mary 0 MSU Moorhead 37
For just the second time in ten meetings, the University of Mary was the losing side in the Battle for the Paddle with MSU Moorhead. Two huge runs early in the game gave the Dragons an early lead and the Marauders were unable to recover. On the third play of the game MSUM's Kayne Griffith bolted 72 yards for a score. On the Dragons next offensive play Preston Prince dashed 62 yards for the score and a 13-0 MSUM lead less than six minutes in the game. Looking to cut the deficit, the Marauders drove to the Dragons 2 yard line but failed to score. MSUM continued to salt away the game, scoring just 33 seconds prior to intermission before adding a 3rd quarter touchdown and a field goal in the 4th. The scoring closed when the Dragons scored on a blocked punt, the second straight week a blocked punt was returned for a score against the Marauders. U-Mary generated just two yards rushing and 129 passing while MSUM ran for 354 yards and 45 yards passing.
Caleb Buck passed for 128 yards and
Zach Podoll caught two passes for 35 yards to lead the Marauders.
Preston Tescher made a career-high 17 tackles and
Seth Walton added 13 stops. Herman Grey ran for 108 yards and a score to lead MSUM and Griffith added 97.
HEAD COACHES
Josh Kotelnicki is in his second season as the head coach of the University of Mary. He is just the fifth varsity head coach in school history as the team begins its 28th season. Kotelnicki directed the Marauders to a 5-6 record in his first season in 2014 and is 6-15 lifetime (2 years). Kotelnicki joined U-Mary after serving as the associate head coach at NCAA FCS University of North Dakota for two seasons (2012-13) and as UND's defensive coordinator in 2013. A native of Litchfield, Minn., Kotelnicki won an NCAA Division II title as a player at North Dakota and has been on winning teams as a coach at the NCAA FBS, FCS, and Division II levels. After starting his coaching career at UND, he has also worked at Murray State, Truman State, and NCAA FBS Kansas State before returning to UND... In his eighth season leading the St. Cloud State University football program, Scott Underwood has posted a winning record in each of his first seven years and owns a career mark of 63-30 overall and 58-24 in Northern Sun games. He was named the 2011 NSIC Coach of the Year after leading the Huskies to a share of the conference title and getting SCSU to a second straight NCAA playoff berth. Underwood has taken SCSU to the NCAA playoffs in three of the last five years and is third all-time in wins at SCSU. The 1988 graduate of Augustana College was the SCSU defensive coordinator prior to earning the head job.
THE MARAUDERS-HUSKIES SERIES HISTORY (SCSU leads the series 9-0)
An annual contest for the Marauders since beginning NCAA Division II play in 2006, U-Mary has faced SCSU eight times with the Huskies winning all nine... 2006: In the first meeting between the two schools, the Marauders used scoring runs of 81 yards by Justin Fleck and seven yards by Blair Sandy to take a 14-13 lead in the third quarter. The Huskies exploded for 21 points in the fourth to take a 37-14 win. Matt Wall caught six passes for 100 yards and Fleck ran for 99... 2007: Brian Christan booted the game-winning field goal with 55 seconds left in the game from 36 yards in a SCSU 16-13 win. Sandy threw for 230 yards and Roman Penirian had five catches for 127 yards to lead U-Mary.... 2008: Darius Dotch returned an interception 30 yards for the winning touchdown with three minutes left in the game in a 14-7 SCSU win. U-Mary pulled even in the third when Jesse Kozak connected with Erik Kruse from 15 yards out. Lamal Lomax ran for 77 yards to pace the Marauders offense. RB Brandon Geiss gained 124 of SCSU's 193 yards in the game... 2009: Joey Bollinger threw for 267 yards in his first collegiate start and Lomax scored two touchdowns but SCSU ran for 371 yards in a 35-17 Huskies win. Stripling led SCSU with 154 yards and two TDs, one of three Huskies to run for over 100 yards... 2010: John Oyloe returned an interception for a TD and Mo Burrough blocked a punt that was returned for a score by Marcus Parence, the Marauders only points in a 30-14 road loss to SCSU. The Huskies ran for 291 of their 403 yards. Burrough also knocked down three passes... 2011: U-Mary intercepted four passes and held #18 SCSU to 99 yards passing but the Huskies ran for 354 and scored the last 14 points in a 45-24 road win. The Marauders held a 14-7 lead before the Huskies took a 31-14 advantage. Dante Steward led SCSU with 134 yards rushing, Michael Walker added 101 and Geiss had 87 yards and two touchdowns. Craig Bagnell threw for 235 yards and a score to Bryan Sandy. Mo Burrough and Andrew Richter each had two interceptions with Burrough returning one for a score... 2012: The Huskies turned four U-Mary interceptions into 28 second quarter points in a 55-13 SCSU home win.
Elby Pope led the Marauders with seven catches for 81 yards and a touchdown and
Dariouse Gravely ran for 68 yards, including a 24-yard score. SCSU rushed for 307 yards with Michael Walker running for 166, including an 80 yard TD run. Phillip Klaphake as 12-of-14 for 187 yards and four TDs... 2013: U-Mary fumbled the ball away twice and St. Cloud State took advantage of the Marauders miscues in a 20-14 Huskies win. SCSU turned the first U-Mary fumble of the game into a first quarter touchdown before a Phil Klaphake scoring strike early in the second doubled the SCSU lead to 14-0. Hoping to cut into the deficit, the Marauders fumbled at the SCSU 5 yard line. A Tyler Ryan 34 yard field goal for U-Mary was answered by Michael Walker's second 1 yard scoring run of the day to increase the SCSU lead to 20-3 with 7:14 left in the game. The Marauders used a Craig Bagnell to Jeremy Mayfield touchdown pass and another Ryan field goal with 1:59 left but the Marauders couldn't the ball back for a chance to knot the game.
Troy Guptill led the Marauders with 3.0 sacks and 4.0 tackles for loss and
Grant Singer added three tackles for loss. Bagnell passed for 269 yards and a score... 2014:
Zach Roberson completed 40-of-64 passes for 505 yards (all school records) and five TDs and
Elby Pope caught 11 passes for 199 yards and two scores to become U-Mary's all-time leading receiver in a 55-44 Marauders loss at St. Cloud State. The Marauders scored 34 points in the second half but could never overcome a 34-10 halftime deficit.
Myron Baldoz-McArn added seven catches for 99 yards and 1 TD and
Jake East posted a line of 7-99-1.
Troy Guptill had two tackles for loss, including a sack. Nate Meyer was 18-of-22 passing for 232 yards and 2 TDs for SCSU and Jaden Huff ran for 128 yards and 3 TDs.

QUICK LOOK AT THE ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY HUSKIES
The Huskies are pursuing an 8th straight winning season but need a win in the season finale against the Marauders to do so. St. Cloud State has dropped two 1-point games (21-20 vs. Southwest Minnesota State, 28-27 at Bemidji State) and two more by a touchdown, including last week's 31-24 loss against Northern State. The Huskies have committed 19 turnovers this year, one of the larger totals in the NSIC. Twice SCSU has committed five turnovers in a game, both resulting in losses. In the top five of the NSIC in both yards gained and points scored, JR QB Nate Meyer leads the potent offense. Competing 61.8 percent of his attempts, Meyer has thrown for 2,617 yards with 20 TDs and 10 interceptions and gained 360 rushing. Ledell White leads the running game with 751 yards and 6 TDs. SO RB Jaden Huff has scored 12 TDs. Jameson Parsons has 58 catches for an NSIC-leading 1,152 yards and 7 TDs. Defensively SCSU is 6th in yards allowed and 7th in points. SO LB Brady Westart is 3rd in the NSIC in sacks (7.5) and also leads the team with 71 tackles. SO Craig Szymanski ranks 6th in tackles for loss (12.0). Â

Senior safety
Preston Tescher continues to post impressive tackle totals. After setting a career-high last week, he now leads the Northern Sun in stops. The Bismarck, N.D., native made 17 tackles at MSU Moorhead, including four solo stops and 0.5 tackles for loss. For the year he is sitting at a career-high 99 tackles (55 solo). He has a 2-tackle lead over the nearest competitor and his 55 solo stops also tops the charts.

Preston Tescher stands alone as the third leading tackler in U-Mary football history. With 293 tackles, the two-time All-Northern Sun safety trails a pair of All-American linebackers on the chart, Toby Schweitzer (410 tackles) and
Grant Singer (351). A three-year starter who saw significant action as a freshman, Tescher has 171 solo stops and 122 assisted tackles. He passed Singer last week for most solo tackles in the school's NCAA era (2006-current). After posting 31 tackles as a freshman, he increased to 74 in 2013 and 89 last season. He is currently at 99 this year. Additionally Tescher leads the school for the NCAA-era team-high in passes defensed (24).

The past two weeks have been highly productive for senior LB
Seth Walton. Against Minnesota Crookston he recorded 11 tackles in the U-Mary win. The following week Walton posted a career-high 13 tackles at MSU Moorhead. For the season the native of Helena, Mont., has 68 tackles (32 solo) and a career-high 8.0 tackles for loss, plus a fumble recovery and an interception.

VERSATILITY

Zach Graves (Rocklin, Calif.) is a triple threat for the Marauders. He is second on the team in both rushing and receiving and is a threat on kick returns. In his first year at U-Mary he has run for 323 yards and 3 TDs. Graves is second in receiving with 29 catches for 263 yards and one TD. He leads the team with a 21.5 yard/return average on kickoffs and touchdowns with four. Â

Adam Woroniecki has paced the Marauders ground game. The Hebron. N.D., native has a career-high 555 yards rushing and 2 TDs on 138 carries.Twice this season he has cracked the century barrier (103 yards vs. Upper Iowa, 162 vs. Minnesota Crookston).
BROTHERS
Newcomers Zach and
Connor Graves are the lone pair of brothers on the current Marauders squad. Natives of Rocklin, Calif., both are juniors and transferred to U-Mary this season. Older brother Zach transferred from Sierra College and Connor joins the Marauders from Hawaii Hilo, where he competed on the golf team.
