THIS WEEKENDA four-game home stand for the University of Mary continues on Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend for the Marauders against two teams on opposite ends of the Northern Sun standings. U-Mary first faces Wayne State College on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Wildcats are tied with the Marauders for 13
th place in league play. On Sunday, Oct. 25, U-Mary hosts 25
th ranked Augustana University, currently second in the conference. Game time is 1 p.m. both days at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
THE RECORDSThe Marauders are 2-9-2 on the season, including a mark of 2-8-1 for seven points in Northern Sun contests (tied for 13
th in NSIC)... Wayne State College is 2-9-3 overall and tied with U-Mary for 13
th in the NSIC with a 2-8-1 record and seven points… Augustana, ranked 25
th in the country, is 11-2-1 overall and tied for 2nd in the NSIC at 9-1-1 and 28 points.
LAST WEEKU-Mary went unbeaten on the weekend for the first time this season, blanking fifth-place St. Cloud State 2-0 and drawing with Minnesota Duluth 2-2. In the win over the Huskies,
Mykala Benjamin scored both Marauders goals on breakaways, the first in the 19
th minute before repeating the feat in the 30
th minute. The U-Mary defense limited SCSU to just six shots on goal.
Bailey Wenz made five saves for the Marauders in the win. The weekend ended with the Marauders and Bulldogs alternating goals in very similar fashion. U-Mary scored first on a penalty kick by freshman
Jade Smith at 41:01. UMD then tied the game in the 49
th minute on a penalty kick of its own. Freshman
Emily Julian snapped the tie with a goal in the 58
th minute before UMD knotted the contest in the 73
rd minute. Wenz made 11 saves in the tie… After dropping a 6-0 decision to Minnesota State, Wayne State closed its weekend at home with a 1-0 win over visiting Concordia-St. Paul… Augustana defeated Concordia-St. Paul 3-1 for an eighth strait win before Minnesota State snapped the streak with a 2-1 Mavericks win over the Vikings.
PINKThis is Breast Cancer Awareness weekend for the Marauders. U-Mary will wear pink jerseys and socks in Sunday's game against Augustana.
BENNETT BLASTSWith her family in attendance for Family & Senior Recognition Weekend,
Mykala Benjamin picked the perfect time for her first multi-goal game. The senior defender/forward scored both U-Mary goals in the 2-0 victory over St. Cloud State. In both cases Benjamin used her blazing speed to fly down the left side of the field and beat the defender for a 1-on-1 opportunity against the Huskies goalkeeper. She finished the first goal with a blast into the upper right corner of the net. Her second goal she rolled the ball into the lower right corner. Overall she took nine shots in the win and had all four Marauders shots on frame.

Jade Smith and
Emily Julian both scored their first collegiate goals in the 2-2 tie with Minnesota Duluth. Smith scored in the first half when she buried a penalty kick for the first goal of the game. With the game later knotted at 1-1, Julian one-timed a
Megan Searson pass into the net for a 2-1 lead.
NO NO NOBailey Wenz had a tremendous weekend in net. The senior goaltender from Gillette, Wyo., allowed two goals in 200 minutes of play and made 16 saves. She posted a clean sheet in the 2-0 win over SCSU and recorded five saves. Wenz then made 11 saves in a 2-2 draw with UMD. One of the goals allowed was on a penalty kick.
SCHEDULING ISSUESThe NCAA released its first regional poll of the season earlier this week. U-Mary has faced five of the ten ranked teams (Minnesota State, Central Missouri, Minot State, Winona State and Bemidji State) from the Central Region, which includes teams from the NSIC, MIAA and GAC. U-Mary will play a sixth ranked team this weekend – Augustana.
SCHEDULING ISSUES PART 2The Marauders have faced 11 of the top 12 teams in the NSIC standings already this season but only one of the bottom four teams.
HOME SWEET HOMEThe Marauders are in a stretch of playing five of their last six games of the season at home. The only road game is at Northern State.
HISTORYThe Marauders are 8-0-1 against Wayne State. The lone blemish was a draw in 2010. U-Mary won 2-1 on the road last season when
Andrea Muller scored twice... U-Mary is 5-3-1 all-time against Augustana. Last season the Marauders scored first on a
Mykala Benjamin counter but the Vikings tallied twice in the final 19 minutes for the win.
NEXT WEEKU-Mary closes the 2015 season with a road game at Northern State on Friday, Oct. 30. The final game of the season occurs at home on Sunday, Nov. 1, when MSU Moorhead visits.
