BISMARK, N.D. -
Brittney Dietz reached a career milestone in points scored, but her effort, combined with a great performance from
Dani Williams, wasn't enough to slow St. Cloud State University as the University of Mary Women's Basketball team fell 75-66 to the Huskies.
Â
Dietz needed 13 points to reached 1000 on her career and she accomplished that in the first 10 minutes of the game. U-Mary found themselves down 9-4 early in the first half, but demonstrated their trademark resiliency as they fired off a 14-3 run that gave them a 18-12 lead with 12:47 remaining in the first. Dietz had 10 points on her own at that point and trotted down the court with the ball, found the open look, and sank the three pointer with 10:12 to go in the half to become the 15th player in U-Mary's history to reach the 1000 point mark.
Â
The Marauders fed off her momentum and maintained a 32-22 lead by the third media break, but the Huskies wouldn't go quietly as they pulled off a 10-2 run of their own to pull within two at 34-32 in the first half. U-Mary held on, however, and had a 38-34 lead going into break.
Â
The game turned into a tale of two halves to start the second as both teams fought back in forth in the early goings, but St. Cloud State eventually pulled ahead at 12:20 with a 48-46 lead. From there, the Huskies struggled to shake off the Marauders as U-Mary never fell behind by more than six but still found themselves on the negative end of a 58-57 score with 5:54 left in the game.
Â
The crucial run came after this point as the Huskies fired off nine unanswered points and pulled ahead 67-57 with 2:46 remaining in the game. The Marauders couldn't get within six after that point and eventually fell 75-66.
Â
Dietz led all scorers tonight with 20 points; it was the sixth time this season she recorded at least 20 in the game. She also added five steals, four assists, and two rebounds in her 37 minutes of action on the court.
Â
With
Dani Clarke injured tonight,
Dani Williams got the start and finished with 13 points, the sixth time this season she reached at least double-digit points. She also finished with seven rebounds, five steals, and two assists in 32 minutes on the court.
Â

Â
