Marauders Drop Heartbreaker to #10 Seattle Pacific in 2OT

BISMARCK, N.D. – In devastating fashion the Marauders Men's Soccer team saw their chance to at least tie #10 Seattle Pacific slip away in the 110th minute of a double overtime thriller at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.

The Falcons took the ball down the near sideline and Jordan Thompson took the feed from Danny Olivas and found the back of the net at 109:11 in the second overtime.

It was especially heartbreaking for the Marauders as they held the lead through most of the game. Jordan Pearce netted his team leading sixth goal of the season off a rebound from a corner kick by Brad Kelly coming at 36:53 in the first half. Jack West took the corner from Kelly and fed a pass to Pearce on the opposite side of the net.

U-Mary carried the lead through most of the second half but a rebound from a team save bounced to Seattle Pacific and an easy shot from the Falcons resulted in a goal at 70:09.

The first overtime went back and forth with a few shots coming from both sides but nothing finding the back of the net.

The Marauders missed their opportunity in the second overtime as they had a chance with an open net around the 108th minute but the Falcons' stingy defense poked the ball away before anyone could take a shot.

The clinching goal from Thompson was not far behind.

Pearce proved himself leader of the U-Mary offense as he earned one goal on three shots. Kelly, along with his one assist, took three shots in the game with two shots on goal. Jack West finished with one assist.

Michael Frenzel got the start in the goal and ended the game with 1 saves.  There were two team saves as shots from the Falcons faced a relatively open net but several Marauder defenders were able to force the ball away from the Falcon offense.

U-Mary (2-1-1, 1-1-0 GNAC) hosts Saint Martin's on Saturday, September 27 at Reichert Field at 3:30 p.m.
