AMERICAN BANK CENTER HOSTS BASEBALL COOKOUT ON SATURDAYAmerican Bank Center is hosting a cookout at the University of Mary baseball game on Saturday, April 11. Free food is available beginning at 1 PM at the U-Mary campus baseball field while supplies last. The Marauders host the Peacocks in a Northern Sun doubleheader beginning at 12 noon on Saturday.
THIS WEEKThe University of Mary continues its 14-game home stand when the Marauders host Upper Iowa University and the University of Minnesota Duluth. The Marauders and the Peacocks will play a four-game set on Saturday and Sunday, April 11-12. First pitch both days is 12 noon. The Bulldogs then come to town for a single doubleheader on Tuesday, April 15. The Northern Sun twin bill commences at 1:30 PM. All the contests are scheduled for the U-Mary baseball field.
THE RECORDSEntering the weekend, U-Mary is 9-21 overall and 4-10 in the Northern Sun... The Peacocks are 8-11 and 1-5… The Bulldogs are 7-15 and 3-9.

LAST WEEKThe Marauders went 2-4 last week, dropping 3-of-4 at home to Bemidji State University before splitting a pair of midweek games against #3 Minnesota State.
14The Marauders are in the midst of a 14-game home stand that concludes against the University of Winnipeg on April 17. From March 26 through April 27, U-Mary is scheduled to play 24 of 28 games in Bismarck.
HISTORYThe Marauders are 8-15 against Bemidji State University since beginning NCAA and Northern Sun play in the 2007 season. The Marauders are 5-7 at home against the Peacocks and 3-8 on the road… U-Mary is 1-12 against the University of Minnesota Duluth, including an 0-5 record at neutral sites and 1-7 at Duluth. Next Tuesday's doubleheader will be the first time U-Mary and UMD have played in Bismarck.
SHAUL NAMED NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEKA dynamic week at the plate by
Jason Shaul earned the University of Mary left fielder Northern Sun Player of the Week recognition. Shaul ripped seven doubles in a six-game span and drove in nine runs to become the Marauders first position player to earn league honors since 2008… A junior from New Ulm, Minn., Shaul hit .600 with a .950 slugging percentage and a .556 on base percentage. He went 12-for-20 with seven doubles, nine RBIs and seven runs scored. Shaul also walked twice, was hit by a pitch and struck out once… A transfer from Ridgewater Community College in his second season at U-Mary, Shaul posted four multi-hit games and had at least one hit in all six games. Twice he posted three hits. In four games against Bemidji State on Sunday and Monday, he finished 9-of-14, scored six times and drove home four with five doubles… For the season Shaul is hitting .396 with a .582 slugging percentage and a .512 on base percentage, all team-leading figures. He also leads U-Mary with 11 doubles and three triples and is second in runs scored (24) and runs batted in (21). He has also been hit 11 times… Shaul ranks 29
th in NCAA division II in on base percentage, 19
th in hit by pitch/game, and 39
th in triples. He is among the league leaders in most major offensive categories… While the Marauders have had several pitchers earn league player of the week honors in recent years, the last U-Mary position player to earn NSIC Player of the Week recognition was Mike Feldman on April 14, 2008. Feldman won the honor three times that season and Tyler Liffrig once.
LEAGUE LEADERBOARDThe Marauders are towards the top of the Northern Sun in several offensive categories. U-Mary leads the league in walks (118), is third in getting hit by pitch (38), ranks fourth in stolen bases (36), runs scored (163), triples (8) and hits (257), is fifth in runs batted in (138) and sixth in on base percentage (.382). U-Mary hitters also lead the league in strikeouts (213).

HOT STREAKAustin Grundstad (MI, 5-10, 160, L/R, Sr., Williston, N.D. / Williston) continues his hot play, recording hits in nine of his last 11 games. The Marauders leadoff hitter hasn't gone consecutive games without a hit all season. Only four times in 30 games has he failed to reach either by a hit, a walk, or a hit by pitch. Among the league leaders in several categories, Grundstad is hitting .365 with a .440 on-base and a .443 slugging percentage.
WILD WALKOFF WINThe Marauders picked up a split against 3
rd ranked Minnesota State University with a wild finish. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh,
Jason Shaul and
Derek Somerville delivered one-out singles. Shaul and pinch-runner
Jeff Aders then pulled off a double steal to both move into scoring position. With two outs,
Sam Ingemansen tapped a ball between the mound and the third base line. Mavericks pitcher Mathias Butula, who recorded 12 strikeouts in the game, picked the ball up and fired it past first base into foul territory down the right field line, allowing both Shaul and Aders to score the tying and winning runs. MSU won the second game 14-2. It was the second straight season the Marauders have split with the nationally-ranked Mavericks.
ON POINTMichael Vollrath pitched perhaps his best collegiate game on Wednesday in a 2-1 win over #3 Minnesota State. The junior lefthander handcuffed one of the top teams in the nation, allowing just one run on seven hits and two walks in seven innings. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native struck out four in pitching his second complete game of the season,.
CAREER WEEKMaking his first two career starts after 27 relief appearances,
Sam Salveson earned two wins and allowed just one run in 13.1 innings last week. The senior righthander posted a 0.68 ERA, struck out five batters and gave up 12 hits and six walks. In his first collegiate start, Salveson tossed a 5-hit complete game in a 9-1 win at Wayne State College, walking three and striking out two, He then followed with 6.1 innings of shutout ball in a 2-0 win over Bemidji State University. Salveson allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out three. For the year the Mandan, N.D., native has a 1.25 ERA in 12 appearances, covering 21.2 innings. He now has four career wins.
GUN THE RUNSenior catcher
Sam Ingemansen is one of the top catchers in the Northern Sun in throwing out baserunners. During one recent stretch he eliminated six straight base stealers and 8-of-11. For the season the Bismarck, N.D., native has thrown out an NSIC-high 19 attempted base stealers in 53 attempts.
OUCHU-Mary's most dynamic offensive player is paying the price for producing. Junior left fielder
Jason Shaul leads the NSIC in being hit by the pitch and is 19
th in the country in hit by pitch per game. In 30 games he has been hit 12 times. The New Ulm, Minn., native also ranks nationally in on base percentage (29), triples (39) and sacrifice flies (55). Shaul is currently hitting .392 with a .567 slugging percentage and a .508 on base percentage. He has scored 26 times and has 21 RBI. Shaul has 11 doubles and a team-high three triples.
SWIFT AND STRONGSenior 1B/DH
Derek Somerville has displayed both timely hitting and impressive baserunning this season. The Minot, N.D., native is second in the Northern Sun with walks and is fourth in steals, swiping 10 bases in 14 attempts. Twice he has two steals in a game. Hitting in the middle of the order, Somerville is 11th in RBIs with 23 and 10
th in on-base percentage (.454). For the season he is hitting .323. His walk total per game is 53
rd in the country.
NATION'S BESTThe Marauders opened the season with six straight games against nationally-ranked teams and have had a total of eight games against ranked foes. U-Mary lost all four games at St. Mary's to start the year. Ranked 15
th at the time, the Rattlers rose as high as 3
rd in the NCBWA. Barry University was ranked 18
th when it faced U-Mary and jumped up to 16
th. Lynn University was 21
st when it faced U-Mary and moved up the polls as high as 13
th. The Marauders split a doubleheader against #3 Minnesota State, winning 2-1 and losing 14-2.
PATIENCEUtility man
Dwight Mack leads the NSIC in walks with 19 and is 35
th in the country in walks/game with .74. The sophomore from Mandan, N.D., has to pay close attention to the lineup card to figure out where he is playing. So far this season Mack has caught, played first and third and served as the Marauders designated hitter. The transfer from North Dakota State is hitting .317, slugging .402, and has an on base percentage of .452.
DIALING IT INU-Mary's starting shortstop since arriving on campus four years ago,
Alex Deyle is now fourth in games played during U-Mary's NCAA era (2007 and on). A senior, Deyle has played in 159 games and has started 157 times. He is fifth in hits (127) and sixth in runs scored (67). One of the top defensive players in the league, the Bismarck native has committed just five errors this season in 133 chances and has a .962 fielding percentage.
ULTIMATE SACRIFICEFreshman
Andrew Beyer is second in the NSIC in sacrifice hits, advancing runners in a bunt nine times this season. That total is 23
rd in the nation. Batting fifth and playing right field, Beyer is having a solid first season. The Fargo, N.D., native is hitting .281 with a .379 on-base percentage. He has scored 13 runs and driven in 17. Defensively he has committed just one error this season.
