Stobbe Shuts Down Warriors, Gives Marauders Spring Break Split in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 VERO BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Nick Stobbe picked up his first collegiate win to close out the University of Mary baseball's spring break trip to Florida, an 8-2 win over Rochester College. The victory gave the Marauders a split on the day and over their ten games played during the week-long excursion.
 
U-Mary opened the day with an 8-0 loss to The Apprentice School. The Marauders had defeated the Builders 11-0 the previous night.
 
The Marauders finished 5-5 on their spring trip and are 5-9 overall. The squad won three of their final four games.
 
Game 1: Apprentice School 8 U-Mary 0
In a matter of hours, U-Mary and the Apprentice School (12-4) changed roles. Thursday night the Marauders captured an 11-0 win over the Builders behind a shutout by lefthander Mike Vollrath.
 
On Friday morning Apprentice School lefty Taylor Gomer shut down the U-Mary attack in an 8-0 Builders win. Gomer limited the Marauders to five hits and one walk while striking out two in eight innings. He was on his way to a complete game victory before being ejected in the ninth inning after arguing a balk call.
 
Behind two hits, two walks and a sacrifice fly, The Apprentice School jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second and tacked on another run in the third. A two-run single by Lee Rossi and a two-run double by Christian Burton in the fifth pushed the Builders lead to 7-0.
 
Austin Grundstad collected two of the Marauders five hits in the game.  
 
Rossi was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Burton finished 3-of-4 with two doubles and four runs batted in. Overall the Builders recorded 15 hits.
 
Game 2: U-Mary 8 Rochester College 2
Building on the starting pitching performances of Shane Trattles and Vollrath on Thursday, freshman Nick Stobbe tossed a gem of his own on Friday.
 
A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Stobbe limited the Warriors (0-5) to two hits, two walks and one earned run in seven innings. He gained his first collegiate win and improved his record to 1-1.
 
The Marauders parlayed two hits, three walks, a hit batter and five wild pitches into a four-run first inning. Derek Somerville hit a two-run single to open the scoring and came home on a wild pitch. Sam Ingemansen capped the first inning scoring with a sacrifice fly, scoring Andrew Beyer.
 
 
U-Mary plated three more runs in the second. Grundstad led off with a double and scored on a Dwight Mack single up the middle. After a Jason Shaul single, Somerville scored Mack on a single to right center. A Beyer groundout brought home Shaul for the final run of the inning.
 
A Mason Schiff single brought home Beyer in the seventh to close out the Marauders scoring.
 
Somerville finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Mack added three hits in five at bats, scoring a run and driving one in. Grundstad, Beyer and Shaul each scored twice and Schiff had two hits.
 
Kevin Moore had a two runs batted in to pace the Warriors attack.
