Bismarck, N.D. – A fast start by the University of Mary wrestling team couldn't offset a strong close by Minot State University in a 21-18 Beavers victory. Tied after nine matches, Minot State's Matt Fetterly nudged Riley Nagel 6-4 to close the night and give the visitor the win.
 
The Marauders captured the first three matches of the night. Starting at the 197 weight class, Tom Devito claimed a 4-3 win over Mitchell Eull. Jonah Westbury used a first period takedown to win a 3-1 decision at 285 over Bobby Bartz. Hunter Menendez increased the Marauders lead to 9-0 with an 8-6 decision over AJ Patterson at 125.
 
Pins by Minot State sandwiched around a U-Mary win lifted the Beavers into a tie. After Josh Douglas won the 133 pound meeting by pin, Alec Lindsey earned the Marauders fourth win of the night in five matches with a 9-2 win at 141 over Zachary Cummings. However, a pin by MSU's Jon Wilson at 149 knotted the score at 12-12.
 
Minot State took its first lead at 15-12 when Rikard Avakos defeated Brandon DeLao 6-5 on a third period takedown.
 
A forfeit at 165 pushed the Marauders back into the lead at 18-15 with two matches remaining.
 
In a wild match at 174, MSU's Tiger Paasch jumped out to a 9-4 lead late in the second period and held off a hard-charging John Devito 13-11. Devito had two takedowns in the third period before running out of time.
 
Knotted at 18-18, the dual came down to the Fetterley-Nagel match. Nagel picked up the first points on a takedown before Fetterly pulled even on escapes in the first and second periods. Fetterly pulled ahead with a takedown in the second. Not done, Nagel tied the match with a reversal in the third but an escape and riding time earned Fetterley and Minot State the win.
 
The Marauders, who next host Northern State University on February 13, slip to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in the Northern Sun. The Beavers improve to 2-12 and 1-6.
