Last Week: The Marauders faced a tough opponent in Aberdeen, S.D., as the #3 Wolves demonstrated a balanced offense with a stingy defense to keep the Marauders well under their season averages in a 80-53 loss.
Hannah Larson was the lone bright spot for U-Mary as she netted 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the floor. Although she only played 19 minutes, she also grabbed three rebounds and dished out two assists. The Marauders tried to rebound against MSU-Moorhead, but the Dragons weren't giving any opportunities as they held on to the lead for a majority of the game. Larson, again, shined for U-Mary as she set a career high in points scored with 31 on 13-for-18 shooting, grabbed eight rebounds and swatted away three shots in 33 minutes.
Brittney Dietz added to the total with 15 points and three rebounds, and
Dani Williams provided a spark off the bench with 18 points and four rebounds for the Marauders. Sioux Falls maintained their win streak after a convincing win over Upper Iowa 86-56 and put a stop to Winona State the next day 82-65. Southwest Minnesota has struggled to find their footing as they fell to Winona State 79-55 and followed up with a 82-75 loss to Upper Iowa. Sioux Falls shot 49 percent from the field and were led by Marie Malloy with 20 points and nine rebounds against Upper Iowa, followed by a 45 percent from the field performance against Winona State. Southwest Minnesota was held to 31 percent shooting against Winona State and only had to players reach double digit scoring, but bounced back the next day with a 47 percent performance, but were outshot but the Peacocks at 51 percent.
History: U-Mary had won the previous two games against Sioux Falls, last year the Marauders narrowly beat the Cougars 78-75 last year in Bismarck, and U-Mary won convincingly 76-65 in SIoux Falls the year before. The Marauders are 7-3 against Southwest Minnesota and are sitting on a three-game win streak after defeating the Mustangs 73-65 last year in Bismarck.
Next week: The Marauders will have one more game before Christmas break as they pay a visit upstate to Minot State University on Friday, Dec. 19.
