WAYNE, Neb. – Senior forward
Andrea Muller twice found the net and the University of Mary women's soccer team rallied for a 2-1 win at Wayne State College.
The Wildcats opened the scoring on a Josie Brown counter of a cross from the right side in the 17
th minute of play.
Muller knotted the game in the 36
th minute. Taking a cross from
Mykala Benjamin, the West Fargo, N.D., native headed the ball into the net to send the Marauders into intermission even at 1-1.
The Marauders gained their first lead of the day on Muller's fifth goal of the season and 15
th of her career. With the ball loose in front of the net, Muller shot the ball past the keeper for a 2-1 U-Mary lead at the 66:48 mark.
Michelle McGeary was awarded an assist on the goal.
Shelby Buttron preserved the U-Mary win, making three of her game-high 11 saves in the final 20 minutes of the game.
The Wildcats had a 17-10 edge in shots and a 12-4 advantage on shots on frame. WSC also had seven corner kicks to five for U-Mary.
The Marauders improve to 5-7-3 overall and 4-6-2 in the Northern Sun. With 14 points in NSIC play, U-Mary is 10
th in the standings and trails the eighth and final playoff slot by four points with three games left to play. Wayne State is 2-12-1 and 1-11.
U-Mary concludes its southern swing at Augustana on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m.
