Box Score Bismarck, ND – Costly miscues by the University of Mary women's soccer team led to golden opportunities for Winona State University, and the Warriors took advantage in a 3-0 win over the Marauders. The Warriors scored on each of their first three shots on frame.
Early in the match a Marauders miscue allowed Winona State's Jennifer DeRoo to split the defenders and bury the ball in the net from inside the penalty box at the 2:27 mark for a 1-0 Warriors lead.
The Marauders defense would hold the Warriors in check until U-Mary was called for obstruction inside the penalty box in the 37
th minute. Awarded an indirect kick 15 yards out and to the left of the U-Mary goal, Rebecca McCoy tapped the ball to Samantha Fegen, who drove the ball into the upper right side of the net for her second goal of the season. The Warriors led 2-0 entering intermission.
The scoring closed out in the 65
th minute. Following a pass to the top of the penalty box, Mehan Bolton secured the ball and dribbled right, eluding the U-Mary defenders and goalkeeper
Shelby Buttron to tap the ball across the goal line for a 3-0 WSU advantage.
Statistically the game was fairly even. Both teams had five shots on frame with WSU having a slight edge in shot attempts (13-11) and corner kicks (6-3). The Warriors did commit more fouls, 13 to ten, and had two of the three yellow cards awarded in the match.
The five shots on goal allowed by U-Mary was its second-best total of the season, only behind the three given up in a win at the University of Sioux Falls.
Megan Searson led the Marauders with three shots on frame.
Alex Bachman-Williams and
Emily Christensen had the other U-Mary shots on frame.
Alexandra Vial posted five saves for WSU. Button had two for U-Mary.
