Marauders Return to NSIC Action This Weekend with Pair of Games at Sioux Falls, SMSU

THIS WEEKEND
The University of Mary returns to league play for the first time since its season opener. Now on the final leg of a six game road trip to open the season, the Marauders start the weekend in South Dakota at the University of Sioux Falls at 1 PM on Saturday, Sept. 21. U-Mary then faces Southwest Minnesota State University on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 1 PM in Marshall, MN. Both are Northern Sun contests.

THE RECORDS
U-Mary is 0-3-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the Northern Sun… Sioux Falls is 0-4-0 and 0-1-0… SMSU is 4-0 and 1-0, defeating USF 3-1 in NSIC play.

LAST WEEK
In the span of seven days, the Marauders played all three of their non-conference games scheduled for the season. U-Mary dropped all three games, and all three were road matches. In a two game trip to Missouri, the Marauders lost 2-0 at Southwest Baptist before finishing with a 5-2 loss at #24 Central Missouri. On Monday the Marauders suffered a 2-0 setback at MSU-Billings.

27…28…29…
In the Marauders loss at Central Missouri, two-time all-region performer Alex Bachman-Williams scored her 29th career goal. With her next counter, the senior forward from Minot, ND, will become the ninth U-Mary player to crack the 30 career goals barrier. She will also be the first to reach 30 goals solely during the Marauders NCAA era (2006 to now). The last U-Mary player to notch 30 goals was Jessica Janusz (2005-08), who started her career during the Marauders transition from NAIA to NCAA competition. The school's all-time leading goal scorer is Marauders Hall of Fame selection Nicole Benedict (2002-05) with 66 career goals.

UK CONNECTION
Two freshmen soccer players from the United Kingdom combined to score the Marauders first goal of the season against Central Missouri. A native of Strabane, Northern Ireland, midfielder Zara O'Hagan took a pass from Meagan Searson, a midfielder from Blackburn, England, to scored her first collegiate goal 18 minutes into the match.

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY
Marauders goalkeeper Shelby Buttron has been kept rather busy this season. The junior from Olathe, KS, is averaging 8.67 saves per game, second most in the Northern Sun. In three starts, she has made nine saves against Central Missouri and Minot State while posting eight against Southwest Baptist. In her first start of the year, Bailey Wenz reached double digits in saves, making ten stops in a 2-0 loss at MSU Billings.

HI, MY NAME IS…
Six new players have started at least one game for the Marauders this season. Redshirt freshman defender Bailey Bachman-Williams and two true freshmen midfielders – Zara O'Hagan and Michelle McGeary – have started all four games. Freshman midfielder/defender Megan Searson has three starts in four games and freshman defender Alexis Nahring has one start. Also, Bailey Wenz, a junior goalkeeper from Western Nebraska Community College, has one start in frame for U-Mary.
