Bachman-Williams Nails Golden Goal in Marauders Win Over Cougars

Box Score Bismarck, ND – Alex Bachman-Williams blasted home a golden goal late in the second overtime to propel the University of Mary to a 2-1 win over the University of Sioux Falls. The win keeps the Marauders atop the Northern Sun standings with a perfect mark in three conference games.

With time running out in the extra session, Bachman-Williams gained control of the ball 30 yards straight out from the goal. The junior midfielder launched a shot into the lower left corner of the net with just 2:39 remaining in the second overtime. U-Mary's leading scorer last season, Bachman-Williams recorded the game-winning goal in both Marauders wins over the weekend. She scored the Marauders third goal in a 3-2 win over Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday.

After a scoreless first period, Bachman-Williams had an opportunity to put U-Mary on the board first on a penalty kick but USF goalkeeper Samantha Maybon made the save.

Less than two minutes later, the Marauders posted the first goal of the game in the 65th minute off a set piece. Positioned in front of the net, Andrea Muller headed the ball into the corner off a corner kick served by Emily Christensen.

Sioux Falls, which managed just three shots on goal during the game, took advantage of a Marauders mistake late in the contest. Looking to protect herself against onrushing attackers after picking up the ball, Marauders goalkeeper Ashley Akers was called for a yellow card when she bumped into a Cougars player. A penalty kick was awarded to USF and Sidney Allen converted to tie the game at 72:54.

U-Mary had an opportunity to take the lead in the final five minutes of regulation but just missed on two great attempts. Bachman-Williams beat Maybon to the right side but the ball just glanced off the post. Muller was there for a long rebound but sailed her shot over the net.

The Marauders held a 24-14 advantage in shots with a 12-3 edge in shots on frame. The home team also had a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.

After five straight home games to open the season, the Marauders are 3-2-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the NSIC. USF is 0-5 and 0-2.

U-Mary now prepares for its first road trip of the season, next playing at Winona State University on Saturday, September 22, at 1 PM.
