Meyhoff Masterpiece Keys Marauders First Win

Game 1 Box Score        Game 2 Box Score

Winter Haven, FL - McKeon Meyhoff may be a freshman, but he certainly isn't throwing like one. The University of Mary lefty pitched the Marauders to their first win of the season, a 4-1 decision over Gannon. The Golden Knights captured the first game of the day by a 4-2 count in extra innings over the Marauders.

Meyhoff allowed just two hits and no earned runs in six innings. He also struck out two batters. The native of Hazen, ND, pitched four perfect innings and allowed more than one hitter to reach base in an inning just once.

Earlier in the week Meyhoff lost a 1-0 decision to Gannon.

The Golden Knights struck first, using an error and a double by Tim Lipp to score a single run in the third inning.

U-Mary scored an unearned run in the fourth inning. Steve Pletan and Sam Ingemansen both walked. A ground ball to third base with two outs by Alex Deyle was booted and Pletan scored to even the game.

James Carroll was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning and moved to third on a single by Pletan. Kyal Williams would hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Carroll with what proved to be the winning run.

U-Mary sealed the game in the seventh. After walks to Salveson and Steffan, another error by Gannon would score the two and U-Mary's lead increased to 4-1.

Freshman Travis Famias then came on to preserve the win, throwing a perfect seventh to earn his first collegiate save.

The Marauders engaged in another pitching duel in the opener. Tied at 1-1 through seven innings, Gannon scored three times in the eighth to gain a 4-2 win.

Kyle Lozensky provided the Marauders another strong staring pitching performance. The junior righthander allowed one run on four hits and three walks in a five inning stint. He also struck out two.

Gannon scored first with a single run in the fifth before U-Mary came back in the sixth to even the score when a double by Pletan scored Carroll.

Kyal Williams came on in relief of Lozensky in the sixth inning and kept Gannon off the board the first two innings. The Golden Knights got to him in the eighth inning, scoring three runs on a run-scoring single and a two-run home run.

The Marauders made an attempt to rally in the home half of the eighth behind a one-out single from Carroll and a double from Pletan. Jeff Aders hit a sacrifice fly but the Marauders couldn't get any closer than the 4-2 final.

Carroll and Pletan each had two of the Marauders six hits in the game. The Golden Knights totaled eight hits.

The Marauders (1-7 overall) finish off their spring break trip to Florida with a single game against Warner Southern on March 1.
