Last week the Marauders opened up with #5 Minnesota State. Looking for their first win over the Mavericks in school history, the Marauders defense came out strong. Holding the MSU scoreless for the first 44 minutes of the game, U-Mary was poised to hold MSU to a scoreless half. A handball with :48 remaining in the half led to a penalty kick and a goal for the Mavericks. The Marauders were able to hold the Mavericks scoreless in the second half, but unable to answer offensively as they fell 1-0. Rounding out the weekend for the U-Mary was Concordia-St. Paul. The Marauders jumped out to an 2-0 lead with two quick goals midway through the first. The Golden Bears had an answer, however, as they responded with a pair of goals to end the half. The score would remain tied at 2-2 as the teams headed to overtime. In the 97th minute, Michelle Jones took a free kick that was headed by Kelsey Pacpaco for the game winning goal.

Crunch Time: This past weekend the Marauders played in their third overtime game of the season. With the win over Concordia, U-Mary improved to 3-0 this season in overtime games. Not only are the Marauders successful in overtime, but have proved they can win tight games in regulation as well. This season U-Mary is 4-1 in the NSIC in one score games. The only time the Marauders have lost a one score conference game was against #5 Minnesota State.

This week U-Mary will be on the road for a pair of conference games. First up for the Marauders will be the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (3-4-2, 2-3-2 NSIC). Closing out the weekend will be the Saint Cloud State University Huskies (5-4-1, 4-3 NSIC). Both games are slated for 1 PM.

UMD currently sits in 11th place in the Northern Sun. With a 3-4-2 record, the Bulldogs have outscored opponents by a slim 15-14 margin. Fueling UMD's offensive attack is junior F Dani Potter. Potter was named All-NSIC first team in 2011 and is leading the team with seven points so far this year. Senior D Kristi Mehrman has been key in leading the Bulldogs Defense. Mehrman has started all nine game for UMD. Last weekend Duluth tied a pair of NSIC games. First the Bulldogs tied Augustana 1-1 and finished the weekend tying Wayne State 2-2. Duluth has not lost in the last four games. Last year the Marauders beat the Bulldogs 2-1 in overtime at home.

SCSU is tied with U-Mary in the Northern Sun at fifth place. Despite only scoring seven goals in conference play, the Huskies have managed to win four games due to their defensive efforts. Defensively junior GK Kenzie Hanzlik is fifth in the conference in both goals allowed average and save percentage. Sparking the offense for Saint Cloud, is three time All-NSIC selection Mary Morhardt. The senior midfielder has started nine of 10 games and is leading the team in shots. Last season the Marauders fell in a 3-2 OT game in St Cloud.

Next week the Marauders will continue their road-trip as they square off with Augustana College and Wayne State College. In 2011 U-Mary defeated Augustana College 2-0 in Bismarck. With a 3-0 final score, the Marauders also defeated Wayne State in Bismarck last season.
