Nagel, Beaman Lead Marauders to Trio of Wins at UCM Dual Jamboree

UCM DUAL JAMBOREE RESULTS

Warrensburg, MO – After opening the week against three of the top five wrestling programs in the nation in Northern Sun action, the University of Mary stepped out of conference competition and rolled to three big wins at the University of Central Missouri Dual Jamboree. The Marauders opened with a 26-15 win over Ouachita Baptist, claimed a 30-10 victory against Newman, and closed with a 48-3 rout of homestanding Central Missouri.

Four different Marauders picked up three wins on the mat. Taylor Nagel dominated all three of his foes at 165, recording two major decisions and pinning his third opponent. At 149, Tanner Beaman pinned two of his opponents. Brady Anderson earned one major decision among his three wins at 184. Kriss McCleary picked up one of his three victories at 197 with a pin.

Additionally, Trevor Johnson claimed two wins at 141 and earned a forfeit win to close the jamboree.

The Marauders started slow, trailing Ouachita Baptist 9-0 in the day's opener. The dual began to turn at 141 in a battle between nationally ranked grapplers. Johnson, ranked fourth, routed 8th ranked John Myers 9-1 for a major decision, starting the U-Mary comeback. Beaman would win at 149 before OCU claimed 157 with a pin.

The rest of the match belonged to the Marauders, who won the final five weight classes. The run began with a major decision by Nagel, followed by a John Devito 8-5 win at 174. One of the biggest wins for U-Mary came at 184 where Anderson, a two-time NCAA championship participant, defeated 5th ranked Dallas Smith 4-3. The Anderson win gave the Marauders their first lead in the match at 17-15. McCleary then extended U-Mary's advantage with a 4-0 shutout win before Martin Patron sealed the Marauders 26-15 dual victory with a pin at 285.

Another slow start against Newman was offset by seven straight U-Mary wins. Falling behind 7-0 after the first two matches, Johnson put the Marauders on track with a 7-1 win over Mitch Arnold. Beaman and Nagel both pinned their foes and the Marauders sailed past Newman 30-10.

Facing the host school in its third and final dual of the day, U-Mary rolled over Central Missouri 48-3. Beaman, Brock Krumm and McCleary all pinned their opponents. Hunter Menendez, Nagel and Anderson each won in a major decision. The Mules also forfeited two weight classes.

The three wins even the Marauders season mark at 3-3. U-Mary opened its dual season with losses to #1 St. Cloud State, #3 Upper Iowa and #5 Augustana earlier in the week.

The Marauders remain on the road for their next dual when U-Mary faces MSU Moorhead on Wednesday, January 25.
