This week’s NDPF Female Athlete of the Week is Hala Hossam Awad. Awad stood out for the Marauders on their spring break trip to compete at the USTA Campus in Orlando, FL. Awad took to the sunshine state heat in stride beginning on Wednesday, picking up an impressive 6-0, 6-1 over Ava Hovey of Adrian College. In her only singles loss of the week, and so far of the season, Awad took a DI opponent to a super tiebreaker set on Friday, coming up just short 2-6, 6-2, 0-1 (6-10) to Nirva Patel of Oakland University. Awad followed up with another dominant singles performance on Saturday, defeating Eckerd’s Raia Jagger 6-2, 6-0. Awad capped off the trip on Sunday with a gutsy win over Michigan Tech’s Neva Manas. Awad took the first set of the match 6-4, and then overcame a 2-5 deficit in the second set to come back and win 7-5. Awad, a true freshman from Cairo, Egypt, is currently 6-1 in #4 singles and 5-2 in #2 doubles with Doaa Farouk Mohamed.
