In her first year as a graduate assistant, Haflett saw the team have a successful season. The team ended with a record of 12-5-2 overall and 9-4-2 in conference. The team earned the 5th seed in the NSIC Conference Tournament and made it to the semi-finals. The team tallied 6 shutouts and a 1.63 goals scored per game average. Two Marauders, Caitlin Dooley and Megan Lowery, earned All-NSIC Second Team honors. Caylin Cathey and Jade Smith earned All-NSIC Third Team honors, and Libby Patterson earned All-NSIC Honorable Mention. Eight Marauders earned NSIC All-Academic honors. Lowery and Dooley were also selected to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women’s All-Central Region team.
Haflett worked directly with the goalkeepers and helped improve the goals allowed average from 2.53 to 1.16 and the total goals allowed dropped from 43 to 22. The number of shutouts also increased from 3 in the 2016 season to 6 in the 2017 season.
University of Mary women’s soccer head coach Sarah Cook has added an all-conference goalkeeper to her coaching staff. Ashley Haflett, a two-year starter for Augustana and an All-Northern Sun selection, joins the Marauders as the graduate assistant coach for the 2017 season.
“I am excited to announce the hiring of Ashley Haflett, Women's Soccer new Graduate Assistant Coach,” said Cook. “She will work quite a bit with our goalkeepers and assist in coaching all positions and aspects of the team. Ashley brings a wealth of experience as she was a standout goalkeeper for Augustana. She is eager to learn as a coach, energetic, organized, and is an outstanding young woman with a lot of talent, drive, and passion for the game and coaching.”
A native of Brandon, SD, Haflett (previously Ashley Limmer) was the starting goalie at Augustana in 2013 and 2014, earning NSIC second team honors in her final year and setting season and career records for the Vikings in wins. As a senior she helped Augie reach the NCAA regional tournament and finished the season with a record of 14-6, a .814 save percentage and a goals against average of 1.02 while helping post six shutouts.
Haflett, a 2015 graduate from Augustana with a degree in Biology, opened her soccer coaching career while still in college. She served as an assistant boys and girls coach from 2013-15 at her former high school, Brandon Valley. In 2015 she started coaching youth soccer in Sioux Falls, SD where she was the Dakota Alliance U15 girls team assistant coach from 2015-2016 and the U11 girls team head coach from 2016-2017.
Ashley got married to Bryce Haflett in December 2017.
