Marion Hernandez

Marion Hernandez joined the Marauders Men's and Women's Golf coaching staff in July 2021.

A former collegiate golfer, Hernandez brings experience competing in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and playing in national qualifying tournaments to his role as assistant coach at UMary.

“I’m extremely excited to welcome Marion to our UMary golf family as the new assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s program,” said head coach Michael Herzog. “I feel strongly that Coach Hernandez will be able to build on this foundation and will continue to grow both programs. There is no doubt that he will bring a wealth of knowledge from his playing days while at Minot State.”

“I am honored and grateful to join the University of Mary Marauders Golf program as the assistant coach,” said Hernandez. “I have a deep passion for golf and helping people develop not only as golfers, but as leaders. I’m hoping my experiences collegiately and as a student of the game will propel the program towards greatness.”

Hernandez competed for four seasons at Minot State University. He helped the Beavers capture Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) titles in 2010 and 2011, and advance to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) qualifying tournament both seasons. As Minot State transitioned into the NCAA, he competed two seasons in the NSIC (2011-13). During his collegiate career, Hernandez placed as high as second in three different tournaments, finishing one stroke off the lead all three times.

A native of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, Hernandez played competitively in his home province as a member of the Canadian Junior Golf Association on the Maple Leaf Junior Tour, and in the BC Provincial Tournaments, placing as high as third.

Hernandez, who continues to compete in local and state tournaments across North Dakota and is registered as a +1 handicap with the USGA, graduated from Minot State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. In addition to Marion’s new coaching position, he will continue with the University of Mary Enrollment Management team as the coordinator of Enrollment and Partnerships.

Marion and his wife, Britany, who also works at UMary as the director of Clinical Education for Speech-Language Pathology, are parents to Leni and Wynn.
