Kayla Timmerman

Kayla Timmerman

Kayla Timmerman enters her second season as the Graduate Assistant for Marauders Womens Basketball. In her first season she assisted with the power forward and centers. A native of Plymouth, MN, Kayla attended Wayzata High School. A standout high school player, she was a Miss Minnesota Basketball Candidate, an Athena Award Nominee, a four time All-Conference, and a two time All-State player while helping lead her team to a state tournament appearance. In addition to her dominance on the basketball court, she was also a successful track athlete, setting a school and sectional record in the discus.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Kayla Timmerman to our program as a graduate assistant coach,” said Marauders head coach Rick Neumann. “We are fortunate she was able to rearrange her student teaching experience to join us this fall. Kayla has played at two extremely successful programs; the University of Iowa and Winona State University. She has already added extreme value to our workouts and practices and is an accomplished post player who has taken our young post players under her supervision. Our student-athletes have responded extremely well to Kayla’s coaching and you can see it in their play. Her addition allows assistant coach Jason Schmitz to concentrate on our perimeter players while Kayla works with our posts.  It’s been a while since we’ve had that natural balance in our positional breakdowns.

“The other value Kayla adds is championship experience. She was an All-Conference performer at Winona and a part of an NCAA Tournament team. She has tremendous credibility with our players and understands the NSIC conference very well.  Her knowledge of returning players will be extremely valuable as we begin preparation for the conference season. Having knowledge of the league is so vital in her role as travel coordinator as well. It’s so nice to have someone understand the travel demands of our league as well as simply knowing where the arenas are in each city.

“Overall we feel we hit a home run by hiring Kayla. She coaches in practices and workouts like someone with far more experience than she has and has brought an overall aura of success to our up-and-coming program.”

After High School, Kayla began her collegiate career at the University of Iowa in the Big Ten. She appeared in 26 games for the Hawkeyes, highlighted by a game against Missouri State in which she scored 6 points and corralled 8 rebounds in 13 minutes of action. After one season in Iowa City, Kayla transferred to NSIC rival Winona State. As a sophomore, she provided a much needed spark of the bench for the Warriors averaging 10.7 points and 6 rebounds per game while shooting a staggering 50.2% from the field and setting the single-season blocks mark with 60. As a junior, she found herself in the starting lineup for the Warriors. On the season, she averaged 11.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game while helping lead Winona State to an NCAA tournament berth. Her 92 blocks on the season was third best in the NCAA that season as well as receiving All-NSIC honors. As a senior, she once again established herself as a key piece for Winona State as she averaged 10.9 and 5.9 rebounds per game. For her college career, Kayla finished with 1,032 points, 600 rebounds, and 213 blocks.

Kayla has a undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, and is seeking a Master’s Degree in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. She is the daughter of Leo and Dawn Timmerman, and a sister to Steve, Lori and Jeff.
