Fred Fridley

Fred Fridley begins his ninth season as the University of Mary Head Women's Basketball Coach in 2011-12. During his tenure, he led the Marauders to back-to-back conference titles, two consecutive trips to the national tournament, and has a combined record of 151-81.

In the school's first year of NCAA Division II post-season eligibility, the Marauders advanced to the semifinals of the Northern Sun tournament after placing third in the regular season. On the cusp of making the NCAA regional tournament, U-Mary was 10th in the final regional poll of the season. The Marauders finished 17-11 overall and 11-7 in the NSIC. U-Mary greatly exceeded the preseason prognostication of a seventh-place finish in a vote by conference coaches. Nicci Landdeck earned All-NSIC first team honors and Kayla Rogers was a member of the third team as a sophomore.

In 2006-07, Fridley guided the Marauders to a 14-13 record and a 10-8 mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 2006-07. It was the first season U-Mary was a member of the Northern Sun and played primarily an NCAA Division II schedule. The Marauders finishing with a winning record in the NSIC surprised his fellow conference coaches, who had selected U-Mary to finish ninth of ten teams in conference play. Corrie Villegas earned 1st-team All-NSIC recognition, Nicci Landdeck was named to the third team, and Kayla Rogers earned NSIC co-Freshmen of the Year honors.

In 2005-2006, the squad finished with a record of 21-8, a remarkable effort considering the difficulty of the schedule. The Marauders were in their first year of NCAA DII provisional status and were ineligible for post-season play. The Marauders were often the only weekend game for opponents. Considering U-Mary would usually play two games each weekend, winning 21 games is an amazing achievement. The Marauders also completed an undefeated home schedule, going 10-0.

In 2004-2005, the Marauders finished with a 29-4 overall mark, a conference record of 17-1, and a National Tournament appearance. For his efforts, Coach Fridley was named the 2004-2005 Dakota Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

In his first season as head coach of the Marauders in 2003-04, he guided the team to a 32-3 overall record and a berth in the Final Four of the National Tournament. The 2003-2004 Marauders was the first team to win both the DAC-10 regular season championship and the DAC-10 Tournament in the same season. For their efforts, the Marauders received the North Dakota Sportscaster's College Female Team of the Year award and Coach Fridley received the Female College Coach of the Year award. In the 2003-2004 campaign the Marauders set 14 school records and led the nation in 3-point field goal percentage.

During his tenure, Coach Fridley has coached four All-Americans, 13 All-Conference players, two Conference MVP's, and 20 Conference Players of the Week. The Marauders have also had 19 All-NSIC Student-Athletes.

In addition to his coaching duties, Fridley is an instructor in physical education at U-Mary. He and his wife Lisa have two daughters, Ella and Eden.
