Dason Phelps joins the Marauder Track & Field program for the 2012-2013 season. As a graduate assistant, he will be coachingĀ  the pole vaulters.

Dason made the move from Phoenix, AZ, Ā where he has lived most of his life.Ā 

Highlights from his athletic career include a 2 time NJCAA National Champion (1999,2000) while attending Paradise Valley Community College.Ā  Dason is the only pole vaulter in JUCO history to have ever jumped over the 18 foot barrier.Ā  He is currently the National Record holder for both Indoor (18' 2 1/2") and Outdoor (18'0") set in 2000.

Phelps has been coaching the pole vault for the past decade at many different levels.Ā  He led the pole vaulters at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix from 2005-2009. His tenure there was highlighted by coaching the 2007 4A-I Individual Men's State Champion.Ā 

Since 1999, Dason has been affiliated with SkyAthletics, a pole vault club in Phoenix.Ā  His contributions to the club have been through coaching the year-round club vaulters, coaching weekend camps/clinics, as well as the week long camps held every summer. Through SkyAthletics, Phelps has been involved in the development of over 20 male and female State Champion pole vaulters.

Starting in 2010, Dason joined Stacy Dragila's staff as an assistant coach for her Altius Track Club summer camps. Phelps has been a lead coach at her camps held at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA for each of the past 3 years.

Dason has also been a member of the National Staff at the annual Reno Pole Vault Summit since 2006.

Phelps received his B.A. in Psychology from Arizona State University in December 2011.Ā  He coached the 2011-2012 Track & Field season at PVCC as an assistant coach/recruiting specialist.Ā  Phelps is now pursuing his coaching passion at the collegiate level and is excited to join the Marauders and their tradition of success.

Dason is pursuing a Masters Degree in Strategic Leadership at the University of Mary.
