Entering his his first season as an assistant coach with Marauders in 2012, Australian native Daniel Clitnovici brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the U-Mary Soccer Program.
Coach Clitnovici joins U-Mary from the Colorado Rapids in Denver, CO, where he serves as the current Head Coach for both the W-League and Super U/20's women's teams.
The Colorado Rapids had a successful 2012 campaign with the W-League Women finishing 4th in the Western Conference, the toughest conference in the USL W-League, and the Super U/20’s being crowned number one in North America after defeating DC United in Bradenton Florida 1-0 at the North American Championships this summer.
The USL W-League is the highest tier of women’s soccer in the USA and Canada with many US and other International stars playing within the league making it one if the toughest women’s soccer leagues around the world.
Clitnovici’s coaching background also includes coaching the Colorado Force U/20 ladies as an Assistant in 2008 and 2009 and as the Head Coach in 2010. Daniel was the Technical Director for the Northern Colorado Soccer Club in Greeley, CO, in 2009-10. He previously coached at collegiate level as an Assistant Coach with the Rocky Mountain College Soccer program in Billings, MT, in 2010 and 2011.
Coach Clitnovici’s playing background is just as extensive as his coaching background, which includes playing one season with the University of Mary in 2001 and gaining All Region and All American honors as a starting freshman. He tallied 20 goals and nine assists in his only season at U-Mary and helped the Marauders to their one and only National Championship "Sweet 16" berth to date.
Clitnovici began to play professional soccer in 2002 and his career took him to several countries where he applied his trade as a professional. His clubs and countries played in include: FC Universitatea Craiova in Romania (2002-05), Barnsley FC in England (2003), Gold Coast FC in Australia (2003-04), Apollon Athinon in Greece (2005-06) and CF Elche in Spain (2007-08).
Daniel holds a Bachelor in Exercise Science and both US Soccer Federation and Australian Football Federation Coaching Qualifications.
