Karl Sorby is in his second season as a graduate assistant coach with the University of Mary Men’s Basketball Team. Sorby is a native of Valley City, ND, and joined U-Mary in the fall of 2013 with three seasons of college basketball coaching experience.
 
Sorby is a 2013 graduate of Valley City State University, where he served as a student assistant coach for the men’s basketball team from 2010-2013. While at Valley City State, Sorby gained experience in recruiting, scouting opponents, on the floor coaching, and player development among others. During Sorby’s coaching tenure, the Vikings won a total of 50 games, including two 20 win seasons and a NAIA National Tournament Appearance. Sorby coached the Association of Independent Institutions Conference MVP and Second Team All-American, Sekani Milligen. Sorby also coached multiple Dakota Athletic Conference, and Association of Independent Institutions All Conference performers.
 
Aside from his college coaching experience, Sorby has served as a camp director for Midwest Elite Basketball, in addition to working several NCAA Division 1 summer camps, including University of South Dakota, University of North Dakota, and North Dakota State.
