Justin McCloud returns for his second season with the University of Mary men’s basketball program. In just first season with the Marauders he helped the team with individual workouts, game planning, scouting opponents, and recruiting. The Marauders finished 12-17 and finished tied for the 8th place in the NSIC standings.
After a successful playing career at both the NCAA Division I and NJCAA levels of college basketball, Justin McCloud returned to his home state to begin his collegiate coaching career at the University of Mary as the undergraduate assistant men's college basketball coach at the University of Mary in the 2016-17 season.
A native of Bottineau, North Dakota, McCloud began his college career at Bismarck State College before concluding his playing career at NCAA Division I Illinois State University. A three-sport athlete at Bottineau High School, where he averaged over 24 points a game as a senior in 2011-12, McCloud scored 16.4 PPG as a freshman for the Mystics. He became one of the nation’s leading scorers as a sophomore at BSC, finishing 28th nationally in points per game (20.1) and 26th in 3-point field goal percentage (45.6) in 2014. A key reserve the past two years for the Redbirds, he played in 30 games and averaged 3.1 ppg his junior season in 2014-15 and scored 4.0 ppg as a senior in 2015-16, playing in all 32 games for ISU. After the season he was presented with the Torrey Ward Teammate Award and the Student-Athlete Award. Pursuing a degree in business teacher education, McCloud was selected to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete second team in 2016 after earning National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court recognition in 2015.
