After 12 seasons at the University of North Dakota (2000-12) and two years at Jamestown College (2012-13), Tim Belmore joins the University of Mary staff as offensive coordinator for the 2014 season.
“I feel very fortunate that we are able to bring in a coach of Tim’s experience and expertise,” said Marauders head coach Josh Kotelnicki. “He is an offensive coach through and through and I am very excited that he will be directing our offensive attack. Tim has over 17 years of experience coaching a variety of positions on offense. He will coach our QBs and WRs here and has generated numerous All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American honors at the different places he has been. I am very confident that Tim and I have a similar belief in how an offense should be put together and I look forward to working with him to help take U-Mary Football to the next level.”
In his second season at Jamestown, Belmore helped direct the Jimmies to the 2013 North Star Athletic Association title with a 3-1 mark in league play. In addition to offensive coordinator, he also was the quarterbacks and wide receiver coach. He coached eight offensive all-conference selections, including a quarterback that ranked 17th in the nation in total offense. From the year prior to his joining the Jimmies football staff to his final season in 2013, the Jimmies scoring improved by 4.3 points per game, passing yardage increased 41.3 yards and the rushing output jumped 43.7 yards per game. Additionally, kick return yardage improved by 10 per cent from 2012 to 2013.
At the University of North Dakota for 12 years (2000-12), Belmore was a key member on a coaching staff that won an NCAA Division II title in 2001 and eventually transitioned to the NCAA FCS division. UND was an NCAA playoff runner-up in 2003 and a national semifinalist in 2004. The team also won five conference championships (2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2011).
The wide receiver coach all 12 years at UND, he also spent time as the kickoff return coach, recruiting coordinator, video coordinator and summer camp coordinator. North Dakota would set several offensive all-time and career records during his tenure, including passing completion percentage, touchdown passes, passing yards, receptions and receiving touchdowns.
Belmore helped recruit and coached six All-Americans and 15 all-conference performers, including Bismarck, N.D., native Weston Dressler, whose brother played baseball for the Marauders. Dressler, a six year Canadian Football League veteran who was league’s Most Outstanding Rookie and led the Saskatchewan Roughriders to the 2013 Grey Cup championship, recently signed in the National Football League with the Kansas City Chiefs.
A native of Bloomington, Minn., Belmore earned a bachelor’s degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1996. A three-year member of the Dean’s List, he was a four-year letterwinner and an all-conference performer in 1994. He began his collegiate coaching career with the Gusties (1996-98) in 1996 as the running backs and tight end coach, along with serving as head coach of the junior varsity team. Belmore then became a graduate assistant coach for two seasons at South Dakota State University (1998-2000), working with the wide receivers and coordinating team video.
