Markell Pete

Markell Pete joined the University of Mary football coaching staff as the running backs coach in
July 2023, and will serve as the Pro Liaison.

A Native of Riverside County, California, Pete is entering his ninth year of coaching. Pete is
coming to the Marauders after serving three years in a coaching internship role with the
Minnesota Vikings along with two seasons as the running backs coach-student development at
DeLaSalle High School and one season at St. Michael-Albertville. Prior to that, he was the
running backs at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Orange County, California, where he
coached Orange County’s Player of the Year, Chad Magyar who rushed for over 1,500 yards and
25 touchdowns who is currently playing college football at UNLV. Known as arguably the hardest
high school football league in America.

Pete has held collegiate coaching positions at Dickinson State University in Dickinson, ND as the
running backs coach, Dickinson State running backs duo Jesse Carney and Myren Moore racked
up over 1,600 yards and 22 touchdowns. Pete later went on to the University of North Dakota
as the Recruiting Assistant/Pro Liaison Running Backs QC working with the Kick and Punt
returners. While in Grand Forks, Pete helped coach All-America running back John Santiago,
who earned first team All-Big Conference honors in both 2015 and 2016 and was the league’s
Freshman of the Year in 2015. Brady Oliveira earned third team All-Big Sky honors and earned
All-America accolades in 2016. UND was the Big Sky Conference champions in 2016.

As a former player, Pete will bring in experience in coaching and recruiting. Pete graduated from
Dickinson State University in 2013 with a degree in Social Science and a minor in
coaching/criminology.
