With four years as a collegiate offensive coordinator already under his belt plus two years coaching at the NCAA Division I FCS level, Andy Kotelnicki joins the Marauders coaching staff in 2011 as the U-Mary offensive coordinator.
Kotelnicki comes to U-Mary from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where he was the assistant head football coach in 2010 and the offensive coordinator from 2007-10. Under his direction, the NCAA Division III Falcons set 21 team offensive records and 12 players earned individual honors.
“We are excited to have Andy on board,” said Schulz. “He brings a ton of energy to our team. I look forward to a marriage of his ideas to our existing system.”
“My family and I are thrilled to become a part of the Bismarck community and the U-Mary family,” said Kotelnicki. “One main reason individuals become successful in life is because they surround themselves with good people. The opportunity to work with people like Father James Shea, Roger Thomas and Myron Schulz is a big part of the reason I am here. I can’t wait to start working with our student-athletes.”
While offensive coordinator at UWRF, five players made the D3football.com’s all-region team, 12 players earned a spot on the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team, and a freshman wide receiver broke an NCAA receptions record. In Kotelnicki’s first year as offensive coordinator, the Falcon offense increased scoring from 13.1 points per game to 30.5 points per game, improved passing yards per game from 89.4 to 234.3, enhanced the team’s total offense from 262.2 yards per game to 403.3 yards per game, and increased the team’s pass efficiency from 82.5 to 116.6. Kotelnicki joined the UW-River Falls staff in 2006 as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach.
Prior to joining the UW-River Falls staff, Kotelnicki served as an assistant football coach at NCAA Division I FCS Western Illinois University for two years. Kotelnicki was the tight end and assistant special teams coach in 2005 and an assistant line coach in 2004. During his years with the Leathernecks he also worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. He received a master’s degree in Kinesiology from WIU in 2006.
A 2004 graduate of UW-River Falls with a bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Performance, Kotelnicki was the starting center for the Falcon football team from 2001-03 and a team captain his senior season. He began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater as a student assistant offensive line coach in 2003.
